Front Turn Signals/Running Lights

Are the front signal and running light circuits separate? I am looking at aftermarket signals and found some with built in white LED running lights. They have 4 wire hookup (I assume signal, running and individual grounds). Is this the same as stock?

The OEM signals on the US bikes are 3 wire - running, signal and a common ground.

Excellent. Then I should be able to use the 4-wire aftermarket signals by just sharing their ground.

The stock turn signal/running lights are actually pretty distracting to me at night. I have been thinking about running a piece of black tape across the top to stop the "shine back".

I was thinking a shot of paint. Haven't done anything about it in 8k.
