Front fork ? On 2014 es

I'm wondering why I'm only using 4 1/2" - 4 3/4" of travel on the front forks ? I put a zip Ty on fork tube to see how much travel I'm using. No matter if it's in soft mode or hard I'm only getting that limited amount of travel. And believe me I've hit some big bumps at speed to the point of it felt like forks had near bottomed out along with noticeable jarring. I thought for sure I'd used up all the travel. On all the bikes I've had including a Duc with ES. I always would get em set up with pre-load adj. (which this bike has none) or new springs and usually with my weight and riding style I would always have to go to a slightly heavier springs in the front . So I would end up with correct sag numbers using about 95% of travel length. I weigh about 200lbs with gear on so I'm thinking the stock springs should be close or even a tad light. Any other ES guys notice this ? I'm wondering if they use progressive springs in the front.
Thanks

It does have preload. Started in neutral you can set Single, Single with gear, two riders, or two with gear.

Preload is adjustable on the ES shock only, not on the ES forks. The damping on the forks changes with the preload settings, while both preload and damping change on the shock. Yes, they are progressive springs, but lighter than the 2012, 13 fork springs.

Aren't 12-13 dual rate rather than progressive?

I'm not a fan of either, but might prefer progressive over dual rate.

You are correct, snake, as are the 14's. That is what I should have said in my post above.

I've used about everybody in Bay Area over the years

Lindeman
Dan Kyle
707 racing suspension
Aftershocks (out of business)
The 4 shops still in business all do good work 707 is more for dirt bikes, Dan Kyle is a great Ohlins rep. Catalyst great customer support but I think the original owner may have moved on I'll find out today. And post up what they say about the ES forks.

Never used them but talked to them yesterday and sound pretty good. They never worked on the ST ES stuff yet but they said its either to much oil, or the progressive spring is preventing travel. The forks are supposed to have 7.5" and I'm only getting 4.5" . I'm thinking of bringing by dealer and see what they say, maybe I can get them to check it out under warranty.
