Front brakes not working smoothly?

Wonder if he did a road test ? Something I've never had a problem with and my bike is usually dirty.

I'll be sure to find out, I'll road test it myself in the open parking lot to make sure its the way I wanted it.. I spoke to the mechanic himself, just told him I want it "feeling brand new" so I am sure they won't consider the case closed unless it was just as so. Will let you know!

If the calipers are covered in crud and the pistons do not retract smoothly or evenly then part of the pad will still make contact with the disc, there are two different size pistons on the calipers, and it could very well be the cause, but it is rare. Continues contact will cause the disc to heat up and distort, even temporarily until it cools down. I use brake cleaner on my calipers after a long ride, then pressure wash all between, avoiding the bearings.

Just got a call back from the Dealership -- I brought my bike in a few days ago for a full service and inspection. They told me the brakes are fixed now "The calipers were filthy"

So apparently that was what it took to fix them. I am curious though, why would dirty calipers make the brakes feel juddery? Aren't the calipers just the pieces that hold the brake pads and pistons? Wouldn't it make more sense if lets say the pads were dirty or if there was dirt on the rotors? Just trying to understand how a dirty caliper makes brakes feel bad.. I tried doing a google search but most of the results came back with different issues.

My bet is that it is not fixed or it's a short-lived fix.

The fix was short lived. I rode it back from the dealership home and it felt BETTER, the brakes were smoother, but after I did 200kms over the last week I noticed the problem is still there. Lumpy brake feel when applying light braking at lower speeds -- which is pretty much all the time when I'm riding since I commute an hour every day in stop and go traffic. I called the dealership back and said I dont care if they need to replace the whole damn front end I want brakes that feel like they are off a brand new machine. Right now it feels like I'm riding a chinese knock off bike. So angry right now. I'm no mechanic so there's nothing I can do personally that I am comfortable with doing on my own to look into this. Last time I was at the dealership I told them to do everything they can to make sure its fixed properly but apparently they just "Cleaned the calipers" and sent it off my way -- a huge waste of my time again to drop it off, get picked up by my wife... wait a week to get it back... so frustrating ::010:: ::010::

They said getting new rotors would cost up to $1,000 bucks as well, which almost made me puke.

Sorry about that... But as I said before - BTDT. New rotors was the cure for me. I really think Yamaha got a bad batch of 'em.

I know, north of the boarder and all that, but a pair of rotors go for about $300 with a little searching.

I just replaced my rear and I'm sure it was around $180cnd
