Would love to say that I'm a delighted new owner but unfortunately not quite yet !
Picked up a Gen 1 14' plate for a reasonable amount, or so I thought.
Engine out, head off, new Gen 2 pistons and rings ( my choice and nothing to do with the corrosion issues ), frame ( and engine next ) re-spray...thanks to a completely seized ( and eventually snapped in situ ) spark plug.
Seeing that everything is now apart ( my new to me bike is nothing more than a propped up frame minus everything ) it seemed a good idea to replace all the known ' issues ' associated with the Gen 1 bikes....Done , Including a Wizz Performance flash along with several other upgrades.
*** If you are unfortunate enough to live in a damp and corrosive atmosphere then please ignore any advice about checking / changing your spark plugs every 40k miles...make this an annual check at the very least ***
