Hi all

Just registered on the site as I'm about to order a new S10 in the UK.

I've had a number of GS's as my bikes over the last 15 or so years but time for a change I think.

Don't get me wrong, I love the beemers and my current 2006 R1200GSA has done 135,000 miles and has never let me down. I had a couple of 1150GSA's before that and an R1100GS which was superb.

However, I run a few motorcycle tours over in the USA www.unchainedtours.com ,and the old girl is a little long in the tooth for that now. I need something to replace her for the tours and it needs to cover the same sort of mileage on all conditions from the super smooth Hwy 1 to the brutal Dalton Highway in Alaska. It will also need to whick me down to Morocco and Portugal with minimum fuss.

Now the 1200WC is a cracking bike and would be ideal but to be honest, it's way over priced. I've had a few customers with them on the trips and they have been excellent but I'm not too sure about the longevity compared with the old 1200 which is pretty much bombproof.

Anyway, I keep looking at the S10 and this year had a good chat with a couple of guys up in Alaska who couldn't say enough about them. I've also spoken with more owners, dealers etc and can't find anyone with a bad word so I'm going to press the order button after the NEC show.

I look forward to getting lots of good tips, advice etc from all on here.

Welcome. You won't regret your choice. The S10 is a fantastic bike, it does everything very well, without fuss or frills. As someone on here said 'Jack of all trades and master of fun' The more you ride it the more you like it. Enjoy ::008::

Welcome from Sweden. Checked your website and the trips looks really awesome! Some day it would be nice to see USA from the bike. :)

Howdy Mr Bilco, fancy seeing you here ;)

I have just sold my S10, well traded it for a KTM, but my S10 never missed a beat in 4 years and over 20,000 miles and if I were going to be doing the sort of trips I know you enjoy then I would have kept the Yamaha, in fact I almost did but could not quite justify having two large adv bikes kicking around and the S10 money paid for a nice shiny new driveway as the old one was a challenge for any adv bike.

If you want some cheapish (in both senses) SW Motech luggage drop me a line as I still have a full set with fittings for the S10.

Sounds like someone whom I am interested in hearing his thoughts after he owns a S10 for awhile.

Welcome
