With some folks in parts of the country that might be starting to store their bikes for a little bit, it might not be a bad idea while in the process to check inside the right area of the swingarm for that infamous cover/plug.

Mine must have fallen out somewhere in my spirited gravel/offroad riding in NW AR last week and just noticed it cleaning the old girl up.

There is a drain plug near the axle on that same side, so unless it's plugged for whatever reason you'll more than likely be fine as any water should've drained out.

Part number is: 5JW-2219X-00-00

It ran ~$7 at my local dealer.

I think the fix, like others have said, is to just put a tiny bead of silicone on it and ::021:: I neglected to do this :-[

Yes...a bead of silicone on the plug, wrap it up tight with painters tape, leave overnight and your good to go.

I thought about adding it to greg's list of "issues" thread, but given the fix is so easy and cheap I figured I'd hold off.

Might see if the dealer will put in a "warranty" ticket, even though I bought the cover already. If nothing else, just to put it on yamaha's radar officially.

Just checked. It was there. It was loose. Caulk and tape in place now.

Lost my plug, so just filled up the hole with Spray Foam Insulation. If you leave it open, dirt and crud will work its way down to the seal on the opposite side and maybe ruin it on the shaft drive knuckle like it did on Gregs. So do yourself a favour and check out your PLUG.

cheapcycleparts.com $6 and change.

Installed mine, and glued it in place.

Done.

pretty sure I lost mine about 30km ago, and never noticed it.
It didn't help my shaft seals.

Thank you, thank you for this reminder!! Went out to the garage and checked mine and it was hanging halfway out. Would have lost it for sure. Will do the silicone fix tomorrow.

Mine's still there. I'll glue it in next warm day.

Thanks for pointing this out.

May I recommend Dow Corning 732. Good stuff, really glues stuff on. Get the clear or black version. They used to offer grey, which would be better.

Hope this helps.

Never knew there was a plug there, even after taking the wheel off once. Checked it after reading this and its still there, amazingly. It will come out easily so I'll do the fix. Thanks for the heads up.

Checked at 20,000 miles. Had the dealership check it at a 26,000 miles service. Checked it the other day at 34,000 miles and it is there and tight. The majority of my riding is on asphalt, only in the rain or mud by accident.

May I remind everyone that part #33 is also a plug, and there are three of them, though they are usually tighter than part #32, the one that usually gets very loose.

Nice thread and good to know. Even though my bike is relatively new I will check it and silicon it in just to make sure. ::008::

It surprises me that yamaha doesn't make this plug out of rubber and a bit bigger in dimensions to fit, instead of the poor fitting "plastic".

I think I probably lost mine in one of the 10 water crossings...

I can only assume the water helped it float off, since it was barely held on anyway...

Hmmm.. interesting. Mine is rubber. (bike manufacture date - 7/11)
It does fit loosely and comes out with almost no effort, but is definitely not plastic.
