Just asking you technical people about something I've noticed on my 2013 S10 with 7200 km (say 5000 miles). With the engine off, 1st gear engaged and rear wheel raised on the centre stand, there is some free play or rotation on the wheel. This measures about 2 cm (perhaps a little less than an inch) measured on the hub and obviously more than that when measured on the tyre. Is this normal? I must add that I notice nothing abnormal while riding.

I'd say normal gear backlash.
Normal. You are seeing the end product of backlash in the rear end, output shaft bevel drive, drive shaft, and transmission. A few thousandths adds up after a while ::021::

Thanks to those who replied. Good to know that this is normal and not something to worry about.
