Only in America...

Yeah, kind of reminds you of this...

http://classactioncentral.com/australias-plaintiff-friendly-class-action-system-a-boom-for-litigation-funders/

or this...

http://www.businessinsurance.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=999910008948

or this...

http://lloydsblog.tumblr.com/post/52686296605/australia-friendly-rules-drive-growth-of-class-action

where it says "...these lawsuits highlight the fact that Australia emerged as the country with second highest number of class actions filed next to the United States. More and more lawyers came forward to recognize the benefits of class actions and their filings saw a significant rise almost a decade after provisons for class action was adopted first in 1992."

Yep... Only in America, or I guess Australia, too! ::025::

Hey dallara, I get your point. Our counties are become very similar in many ways. But if all the lawyers caught a virus and disappeared tomorrow, would we miss them? It is anti-Australian to sue someone just because you can. Everyone wants their dollar when something happens to them. It happens here far too much

Couldn't agree with you more, Squarebore.

Having been a motor vehicle dealer for decades I was the target of many a frivolous and inane lawsuit, whereas the only time I've ever sued anyone was when they breached a contract and owed me substantial money. I simply can't see the logic in suing someone because *I* spilled my coffee on my lap, or *I*tripped and fell down a flight a stairs, or *I* lost control of my vehicle and hit a post, etc., etc.

And I really think the subject of this thread is a ludicrous class action lawsuit in the extreme... I mean really... If someone is so thickheaded as to believe that a soft drink company like Pepsi is adding "genetically modified organisms" to cans of a syrupy OTC pop, or that such a drink is somehow *health food*, etc. then they deserve what they get. Even more bizarre is that literallu anyone can get $45 dollars US from Pepsi even if they can't prove they ever drank a drop of the stuff. That's highway robbery, and pretty good proof itself that things are out of control.

I come across motorcycle parts vendors that are a hell of a lot more deceptive than what Pepsi did, but the simple solution to that is *DON'T BUY PRODUCTS FROM THEM*! That's how you solve the problem, not by hiring a lawyer and suing them.

My two centavos, anyway... BTW, I love Australia. Used to live with a spectacular Aussie sheila and I knew from her what a wonderful place your country is. It's the only country I've ever considered moving to outside the USA. ::003::
