Hi guys.

I was at the GP today and had a bit of a chat with the rep at the Yamaha stand and was told that the 2013 model Super Tenere has been announced here in OZ and will be available in store in white within a few days.

Shame because I really wanted the white model and was assured only last month by Yamaha Australia that it wasn't coming here. Yes, I know it is essentially the same bike but I really like the white model....

I read in the UK press Yamaha are having problems with pricing because most of their bikes are made (properly) in Japan and the Yen has doubled in the last few years as the Japanese government no longer fix the Yen value lower than it really should be.

I suspect they can still make good money in the UK as we pay about 50% more than the guys in the US for motorcycles, but in many markets outside of Rip-Off-Britain (We pay more for most stuff, Ohlins, Givi - you name it, even Triumphs built 50 miles from my front door are cheaper in the states - I could go there, buy one, ship it back, pay import duty and still save a couple of grand) anyway that rant could go on and on...

But the point was with Yamaha not making bikes in cheaper locations the manufacturing cost is much higher and in effect has doubled, probably leaving very small margins in many areas, and a high price compared to the opposition.

I think in the UK this explains the Yamaha's failure to sell well, dealers I all spoke to said when they have an Ex Dem or where selling off old stock around £10,000 they flew out the door, but at £12k they just seem to expensive against the GS / Triumph, and very expensive alongside V-Stroms, Versys and suchlike, even the V4 Honda is cheaper and many would associatte Honda with Quality and a V4 with an expensive to build motor.

I think they should start building them up the road from me, I could be a test rider :)

I was told the exact same when I bought a little over a month ago "no plans for the white".

I did get a very good deal though so I.m not too fussed. Plus it would actually be very easy to change the colour.

Paint the sucker white, can't be too much for professional to do. Just a tank, fender, and the side panel tops. ::021:: Besides Yamaha Blue is way faster

I had word (email) from Yamaha Motor Australia only three days ago (and after the GP that was so well won by Stoner :) that there are no plans yet of distributing the 2013 model. Go figure.
