Footpegs question

Good afternoon,
For some time I have been thinking about changing the Footpegs.
My problem is that Footpegs touch very quickly on the asphalt because my driving style.
Need a shorter or/and a little higher footrests.
All I see is just the opposite of what I need, longer and lower :-\.
Any suggestions?

I would not give up an offroad footrest and I do not like thin pegs, are very uncomfortable to go up

I believe your foot pegs are designed to touch first if you raise them something might touch thats not supposed to

You can also try raising the suspension, although it may mean using a lower seat.

Pivot pegs give about 10mm more clearance, more agin if you consider there is no feeler. I've also jacked up the rear 25mm.

iClint I'll keep an eye on the Pivot Pegz, thanks for the information. I am also changing the rear shock to avoid sinking

Be very careful about how you do this. I am short and tried to lower my suspension, i was turning into a 90 degree turn when my frame mounted skid plate touched ground and bike low sided, threw me off, tires regained traction amd bike then high-sided or flipped. I was out of commission for 9 months with tore ligament in my foot. Bike suspension is back to stock height with preload maxed out, i still scrape pegs and have had no problems since.

With respect to raising the pegs, there is some risk of grounding unyielding / unforgiving parts as your first warning - too late. Adjusting or even modifying the suspension would be my first choices. Also by raising the pegs you will find your knees bent more sharply and for me that's a major comfort issue. You mentioned your riding style, if you're not doing it, sliding your butt off and leaning your torso into the corner can buy a lot of extra cornering clearance. Pushing the bike down under you, i.e. dirt bike style, can rob you of a lot of clearance on the road.

Just to add my personnal experiment about the question.

Whatever the "remedy" tried (hardening of suspensions, back raising, personal weight loss, etc ...), this bike literally drags on the ground when just driving it as normal, and that's all.
Your "riding style" has nothing to do with this issue ::26::

I own a 2011 and had this problem too, so I've changed fork springs (Hyperpro) and rear shock (Touratech), I've also cut the side stand ergot and removed left footrest one too, so I gained some appreciable ground clearance (and better general handling as well as my back in several pieces, close the parenthesis...), and so my bike doesn't touch footpegs as easily as before.

But even so, I had regularly to remove my foot from the footpeg to let it bend when touching the road, and after that it was the brake pedal or the gear change which scraps on the ground, with the inevitable consequences taht may result (once on each side were enough to calm my driving inclinations, 46 is not my middle name...).

In the end, I've just decided that this bike is a fantastic swiss knife and not other wicked roadster, and finally I found peace in renunciation, amen...

Regarding riding style, anybody who has ridden with me knows that I love to set a pretty sporting pace on twisty roads, especially the Ozark roads that I am familiar with. I have over 50,000 miles combined on a 2012 and 2014 ES and have only drug hard parts twice. That was a skid plate that I no longer have. So, my opinion is that riding style has everything to do with dragging parts and I can't imaging dragging parts when just "driving it as normal".

Riding style has nothing to do with it? Seriously? Having taken several track days and personal instruction from pro racers (I am not one) I've come away with the advice/knowledge and personal experience that it is almost ALL about riding style.

Please all, feel free to read and understand my first post before arguing with track practice, warrior exploits or other huge amount of kilometers, the discussion is about 1200 ST driving, 110 HP and 270 kgs, thanx not to mix everything with anything.
