Re: Left Side Only - Peg Feeler

Apparently, or so I was told, the center stand will hit the ground first on the left side, ergo the feeler on the left side. This is not the case on the right side, so they left it off. The tip of the pedal will contact first on the right side.

What's up with that

My 2014 ES has a left foot peg feeler or pavement indicator but the right side doesn't even have a threaded hole for one

The '13's are the same and I am pretty sure the previous models as well.
One of the reasons its because the side stand is on the left only and if that touches the ground it would result in a possible low side...or even worse, a high side.
Second reason is not logical, but in theory, a higher percentage of the rider's feel more confidence leaning over to the left.

@ Brain

The boots are touching way to easily. Anyways, I guess I never opted for "ADV' pegs exactly for the reason illustrated in the pic. With the right tires this bike is like on rails trough the corners, and the pegs are party breakers.

I'm more inclined to agree with the former rather than the latter. For those of us who drive on the correct side of the road (UK &Japan) we tend to much prefer the right handlers. :)

Not saying you guys aren't great riders! Check and make sure you have your "preload/sag" set correctly. I found it was way too easy to drag boots and stuff on the stock settings. Once I maxed out the stock settings or got them closer for my weight (which we all know unless you are 150 lbs fully loaded isn't enough in the rear, no matter how much preload you crank, It happens much less frequently and the bike is even more flickable on-road...

Somerset, I thought only guys from the southern hemisphere liked "rights" LOL

Bushyar, I only tip the scale at 160 on a good day but you are correct if I set my ES suspension on 1 rider + luggage or 2 riders cornering feels much better. Keep in mind I have made a big change in motorcycles, I am coming from sport bikes (GSX-R 750 & KTM Super Duke) that being said I love the way the ST can corner like a sport bike but that doesn't mean I always have to ride it like that. The reason I bought the ST was to have the capability to do trips, carry gear, ride on or off road and be comfortable doing it. The way it feels on these curvy North Carolina back roads is just a BIG honkin bonus.

of course if I put my toes on the pegs like riding a sport bike my boots wont touch the pavement at all

Brain it always amazes me how well this thing goes thru the curves. And you get to do it in comfort too. ::013::

You must have bought a left-handed model? ::025::

Re: Left Side Only - Peg Feeler

I noticed this on my bike yesterday. I had to do a search to see if it was missing or if they designed the bike this way. I know... I know... ::021::

Re: Left Side Only - Peg Feeler

I wore the left side off, then I changed pegs to Jaxon's off road pegs. Most people have one side or the other that they feel more comfortable to "lean" the bike. When you go thru a police motorcycle course they try to train that out of you so you are more balanced. Road course racers have the same thing, but all are more comfortable one way or the other. I seem to wear my pegs down equally.... ::025:: The Yamaha rep here in the OKC area told me it is Left side, Peg>Center Stand>final drive or Pannier depending on what you have on it.

Re: Left Side Only - Peg Feeler

On bikes with centerstands, it is not unusual to have a longer feeler on the left since the stand is generally the first thing to grind and the deployment tab means that left side is always lower. When centerstands are accessories, the mfgs will often provide a different peg feeler for the left.

I was thinking why a "perfect" engineer might do such a thing. Everybody knows that we in the US corner faster in more visually open left turns, more lean. We in the US are also delighted by our high center road crowns. More lean plus high crown equals a shorter lean angle on the left side. Now, I haven't asked any of the folks that ride on the WRONG side of the road where their little feeler button is, maybe somebody will chime in.

Well as someone who rides on the "correct side" of the road I can confirm we have a feeler on the left only ::013:: I thought the dealer had missed the one on the right ::025::

+1 My OEM Suzuki center stand that I bought for my old V-Strom came with a longer "road sensor" for the left side.
