Flat Standard Carrier on rear rack?

Ok, this may sound stupid, but I think I just figured something out. I bought my used 2012 Tenere last year. I haven't seen many around and honestly never paid much attention
to the rear rack until just the other day. I met a fella who just bought a new 2013 and he had a flat plate attached to the top of the plastic rack where the box attaches. I noticed that it
looked like the black plastic piece looked exactly like mine and that plate simply attached to the top.

I stopped in to look at a Tenere at a Dealer and sure enough, it has that some top piece on top of the plastic rack. I thought maybe they had changed the 2013, adding that plate which would
mean they would have had to have changed the way the rear case attaches.

Dummy me.... what I think I have now figured out is that they didn't change anything, its just that the rear box was on my bike when I bought it and I was never given the rear plate..(Standard carrier as I see the manual calls it)

So is this correct? Do all of the ST's come with that flat plate that you can attach to the rear when not using the rear top box? If so, I guess I need to post a thread in the Wanted Section
cause I would like to get one. Maybe someone has a different top box and no longer has a use for that rear plate and we can work a deal?

Yes they do. The box bracket goes underneath. They provide you the extra bolt as well.

I have the silver rear luggage rack (no bolts) unused if that is what you mean? 12.65 for rack and 12.35 for USPS flat rate priority shipping =25.00
yea, the plate that attached to the top of the plastic rear rack bracket for the OEM top box. No bolts ? Hmmm.... Would you give up the rear plastic rack part also? I assume both of those items come off when someone goes with a Non-OEM top box.

The rear plastic plate if your referring to this>> http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-Yamaha-XTZ-1200-XTZ1200-Super-Tenere-Carrier-23P-24841-00-/360802734369?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item540184d121&vxp=mtr

Mine snapped in half when i had a load strapped to it, you can make a better deal out of a sheet of Aluminum.

I bought an old street sign from the salvage yard 6 pounds for $6.00, I didn't make anything fancy I may re design one later down the road.
But for now it's solid with rubber grommets sandwiched between the two for shock absorption with the top case.

Thanks watertowerman. I would like to try and find a black OEM one....Im guessing mine would have been black. Also I need to get some panniers first before I ditch my top box.
