With so many really good GPS software app's for IPhone and other smart phones I had to make this... I down loaded a GPS app that works really well for me called GPS Drive by MotionX.. Then I made this mount up for my ST.. Ive already used it several times, and for my GPS needs it works great ! I can also use a blue tooth with this system and get and answer phone calls (I don't have that ear piece) and can also play music while the GPS is activated and routing.. Any how, thought I would share !! :) ~ Jaxon
Anyone that might be interested it one for themselves just PM me...

I run MotionX with the GPS that is in my Ipad2. Works great till in areas outside of cell coverage and then the maps can't update. Continues to have a bare-bones display, but performance may get flaky and sparse.

For sure... In town or near major high ways should be pretty good..... Other than that can always use paper, or go try and get lost..

I've been thinking about a similar upgrade for some time. One issue to consider is how well the phone will stand up to the elements, especially off road, where vibration, dust, and water could take their tole. Another issue to consider is whether the phone comes with an autonomous GPS or not. If it just uses assisted GPS, which means it uses cell towers to triangulate your position and has no satellite antenna, it will be totally useless in the back country.

It's hard not to look to a smart phone as a very capable piece of the kit when you're out on the road: GPS, pictures and video, music, technical library (manuals), find and book services (when connected), phone, etc.

I've been looking at the Motorola Atrix.

Hey Jaxon, are those LED turn signals? Where did you get them?

I got them from Yamabits...... after getting them I realize I can put together a LED package for much less money for anyone that might want the LED turn signals... (the only good thing about Yamabits is I got the parts...................... everything else about them SUCKS ! )

I agree with you.. The phone is NOT a true GPS... water/dust/dirt/Etc........ And out in the wilderness it would be mostly useless... But for around town or major highways it will work just fine.... I had the phone... and a new GPS is $200-700 LOL We are here in Dallas, Ft Worth, there are a ton of places that this can be useful just here in town. But it cant replace a real GPS unit...

And don't be suprised if you have problems with direct sunlight.....

(my son tried to use his iPhone for a GPS on his FJR and it kept shutting down due to the sun/heat)

Hey Jaxon,

Sorry this is off topic, but I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on a front and rear LED package. I think the current setup sucks ... they're way to bulbous ::007::

Hey Mike...

I might start another tread on this..... After getting the Yamaha units, Im some what disappointed... Mainly because they are so expensive and hard to get. Several of my vendors sell almost the exact same thing for about half the price. I know the ones from my vendors are made in China..... and so are the Yamaha ones.. Probably from the same factory... After looking around, I found the "Yamaha" block out plates for the new LED's and the rest of the gear..... If people are wanting the LED turn signals I can save them a ton of money.. I can put a little package together and send them out..... They are not the EXACT same but very close...
