Flash or Not???

Do you now or ever plan on flashing your ECU?

Where's the "I Flashed Mine a Long, Long Time Ago" choice?

There are tons of others, just like me, who had first the Gen 1 ECUnleashed re-flash, and then later the ECUnleashed Gen 2.

You aren't alone. I enjoy my 2013, and while I may flash it at some point to see what the fuss is all about, it isn't an urgent desire of mine.

I plan to in the fall when I will not be able to ride for a month due to an upcoming surgery.

I have had the stumble to many times in heavy traffic. Not fun. I have done the clutch jumper, but I like to switch between the "T" and "S" easily when I am doing dirt and hitting paved roads inbetween.

I have experienced the stumble a number of times and the jumper mod has helped but I don't consider that a fix. I am planning to get flashed soon.

I flashed and wished I hadn't waited so long to do it -about a year into ownership.

It transforms the throttle response and rideability of the motorcycle.

If you love the bike the way it is - don't change it - your bike, your prerogative.

I still say it's the best money I've spent on the bike, and now with AC doing it for half the price of ECUnleashed it's simply a great value...but that doesn't mean it's the right choice for everyone.

Right, so I get a better throttle response but no extra HP?

Instead of changing my throttle response at the ECU can't I just modify the throttle inputs (right wrist)?

When I hit the twisties I am more likely to wind it up a bit in "T", than run it in "S" and I think I am a fairly good rider....

The reason I didn't mention HP or torque is because I have no empirical data on hand to support it, but it definitely feels like more HP. Maybe it's how much faster the engine runs through the rev range, or maybe it's actually an increase in power, or a combination of the two. Dunno, but it's a night-and-day difference.

I believe someone here Dyno'd their bike post-flash, but I don't remember the result - and quite frankly couldn't care less. I wasn't chasing a number with the flash, I was chasing a better riding motorcycle...

No, you can't make an un-flashed bike feel like a flashed bike with your wrist. That, I am 100% certain of - your wrist can't overcome what the ECU is telling the throttle body to do (or not to do).

When I hit the twisties I am more likely to wind it up a bit in "T", than run it in "S" and I think I am a fairly good rider....
Once again, I'm not trying to convince anyone to Flash their bike - just relaying my personal experience. If you prefer T Mode that's great! I just don't like the lethargic( to me) feeling of the bike's response to my throttle inputs in that mode on the street (it's great for me in the dirt).

On the street I want the throttle to do what I'm asking when I ask it - that is what you get with the flash.

If you like the feel of your stock Tenere - that's awesome! And I'm not being facetious - you're saving some scratch to spend on other farkles to better make it suit your style of riding!

I must be (am) getting to be an old man I guess because my 13 in S mode is beautiful. IMO I can't ask for better throttle response and power. I add a few ounces of Sea Foam once a month which makes a noticeable improvement in these areas. What I have seen with my bike is the more miles I get on it the better the power and throttle response becomes. Each to his own I am glad others find the need for this flash and are happier afterward.

I voted no on my 2012. Has 32k miles and I bet I haven't taken it out of T mode for more than a mile. Total.

Remember I came from Harleys and a KLR650 so even in T mode it has WAY more power and throttle response than what I have experienced. When you don't know what your missing you don't miss it, eh?

Hey, Doug,

Several of my S10 owning friends have said the same thing and changed their mind after they rode mine. Stop by and take mine for a ride sometime.

I liked my S-T just fine before the flash. I love my S-T post flash. It really did make the bike feel more like a motorcycle and less like a tractor. AVC did mine, and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome.

The bike is good either way so you can't loose ;)

Actually, no you can't. :( The ECU will not let you. At least in the first 3 gears. Especially in T mode. If you are in T mode in 1st gear for example at 3000 RPM and hit the throttle WFO, the ECU says no you can't handle 100% WFO so I am going to give you 35%. In S mode maybe 45%. ( I didn't take the time to look it up but those % are in the ball park)
The main thing the flash does is change that throttle response map so you actually get closer to what you ask for with your right wrist. No more peak power but a lot more in the first three gears. The bike just becomes MUCH more responsive.
All that being said, I do not feel like it is a big deal, just a bit more fun when I feel the hooligan urge. I did my own flash with the Flash Tune set up and can make it literally anything I want. But I have it in stock T mode most of the time when touring or riding two up.
Bottom line, if your happy with the stock throttle, don't worry about it at all, just ride. ::001::
But if you would like a snapper throttle response for very little $, PM AC! ::012::

I have not flashed. I don't know if it is necessary. Would my ignorance be a detriment to my enjoyment of my S10?

Like I stated earlier, the bike is good either way. It's just better now. I would have gotten along just fine without the flash, but really glad that I don't have too ;)
