First time on the ground with S10

I dropped it. On a very slow speed, going to a stop at a very hilly intersection. Couldn’t reach the ground and boom! Worst part - the bike was laying with its top side down the hill, so I didn’t have enough leg reach to flip it back up. Thanks to a couple of guys that happened to be nearby - they helped me lifting it all the way up.

It was dark on the way back, but it seems like my forks got slightly misaligned in the triples after the fall and lifting the bike by the handlebars. I dropped my V-Strom 1000 a few times, but it never happened. Strangely it is relatively common on S10. Very strange for an "adventure" bike:

Another strange thing is that the tilt switch didn't kill the engine right away - it was running for several seconds laying upside down. Not cool...

On the positive side, Touratech panniers are great! The right one took all the bike weight and only got couple dents. Nothing else seems to be scratched or damaged on the bike. I fell down and rolled over in my Klim gear and haven't even felt anything, although must have hit right knee and shoulder.

I've had my bike flopped every way possible and it is normal for the tip over switch to be delayed killing the engine. It doesn't let it run long enough to hurt anything.

Glad you're ok and the bike is fine. ::008::

::026:: to what eemsreno said about the tip over switch. Normal. You don't say what year, but I'm guessing 2nd Gen. Not sure if that makes a difference since the design of the triple trees changed. I have dropped plenty of times on pavement and off and not had the forks shift in the trees. Simple enough to correct though.

On the Touratech luggage, pull the down side pannier off and inspect the bike side of the case at the mount points. Sometimes you get a dent there, even when the outside looks fine. Still easy to knock out, but will make taking the bag off easier if you take care of any deformation in the garage at home instead of on the road.

About the tilt switch - it makes sense. It could also be the case that seconds felt longer in the high-stress situation...
I have a 2015 CA non-ES model.

It's no surprise that the bike landed with the wheels on the uphill side. All my bikes do that. I swear they do it on purpose just to spite me. Level, hard ground doesn't tend to induce tip-overs. Slippery, rocky, uphill sections on the other hand...

I spent a half hour once getting my S-10 upright and pointed in the right direction. Needless to say, I was knackered afterwards.

I dumped mine in a hair-pin turn on a rather steep hill while going the wrong way on a one-way gravel road... It was a 20 minute ordeal to upright the bike. Ended up rotating the bike 180 degrees while it was laying on it's side to get the wheels pointed downhill.
