Took her out today for the 1st time. Only 40 miles but got a feel for Big Blue. Grunty comes to mind. Fun too. Heavier in the corners compared to my 08 GS12. I was so freakin cold I couldn't concentrate. Didn't realize how much I miss heated grips, but they are coming next week. Gave her the gravel road 80mph test and came through with flying colors. Woulda went faster but can't go over 4000rpm yet. Was a little disappointed in the Traction Control. Can't be switched off while on the fly. I was told you could. Overall I think I'm really going to like it though. Great lights. Good instruments. Smooth Tranny but noticed when I shift into 1st, there is a slight lurch foreward. Will try adjusting the clutch perch on that. Could use a Gear Indicator. Looks like good clean fun from now on!

You can get the left hand warm a bit. Stick it on the radiator outlet for a second. I know it's oldskool but it works.;D

And yes it's a bit slower turning than a Strom too, but I found it better off road, Compromise. .
Not that I am comparing a Strom to the GS. Wouldn't do that.

It grows on you though the S10. Some little things are a bit "overly safe" like the TC thing, but WTF, I can cope so far.

Too old to die young. So I might as well stay a bit safe.

Have about 750Km personal time on the S10 now.

Only as low as 10C as far as cold goes.

80 MPH on frozen gravel and you wanted to turn off the traction control - you might want to think about that or not, and I hope, for any families sake you had on your full protection gear just in case :) Ride on, ride on ...

Give him time, it takes a little while to recognize you made the right choice. I really missed my MTS12 for a while after I sold it, but the S10 slowly brought me in, with its refinement and protection.

I also agree, 80mph on gravel and you want to turn TC off, maybe go to TC2, that will let your roost a bit. Not sure I want the whole shebang with TC off, lot of weight to mess up your day, and I love to get crossed up with the best of them!

just wondering, maybe you can switch TC modes by pulling the clutch in. I know that's the only way to change drive modes on the fly on mine. Haven't tried the TC change on the fly yet. Anyone know?

Nope, you have to have come to a standstill in order to switch TCS modes

Yammie!

The BMW is still king until I prove it wrong to myself. My Beamer is starting to give me small problems which I have fixed but felt it was time for a change and the Yammie was the only one that I felt would be to my liking. The new Triumph Explorer let me down in the weight department. Felt very top heavy. I've had the Beamer for 4 years and 72,000kms. Awesome machine when everything is going right. It feels more secure at speed on gravel especially in corners. But hey, give me more time on the YumYum when its warmer. Hell of a machine for the price.T and S mode is cool and can be shifted on the fly by backing off the throttle. No complaints just observations on both bikes right now. More seat time and I'm sure I'll like the Yammie better. Plus its Japanese=Reliability!

Yep - as someone said, come to a stop to change TC. A bit annoying, but I find it I'm changing from the default TCS1 to 2 or off, it's usually because I have made a conscious decision to give it some stick - and the short breather gives me some time to mentally prepare!

You don't need to pull to clutch to change drive modes, just close the throttle.

It's funny how it goes. The BMW feels odd when you first jump on it, and you know you have to give it a bit of time. The Oz dealer will at least let a person ride the beast for a while. That is a big plus which YAMAHA should be looking at.
On the other hand $7000.00 for a cappuccino and a long test ride didn't seem like great value and really I am not buying a fancy marble floor either. I know it's all about the "BMW experience" but geez a lot of my money seems to spent on things that are not for my benefit. Wish they were similar prices here, at least that way you could just choose what suits best, but I know that I have 7 Grand to spend on "fixing" things if I need to.

Your contradicting yourself. 'King' is whatever bike you lay down the money for. After you've owned this bike for awhile, you'll come around...unless you're one of those types that will never admit he was WRONG! :D :D ;) ;) 8)

Re: 2nd Ride today!

Have to admit I'm liking it better as I ride it longer. A whoping 310kms so far. I'll know more once I can really wail on it. Still kinda cool out though. Just putting miles on. Few gravel roads but don't want to get to many dings till my new skid plate and crash bars come in next week. Small extensions I made for the hand guards really make a difference in the cold. Heated grips next week too. First tankful gave me 46.5mpg Imperial. Should easy do over 400kms on a tankful once its broken in and warmer. Can really notice a difference between Sport and Touring. Great seat. May look at bar risers. Looks like the wiring coming off the right side of the bars is a little short and twisted around the front brake cable. Keep checking the windshield for buffeting with my Touratech deflector on top but hard to tell. We have so much wind lately. Doesn't seem as bad as I thought it would be though. Nice sound. Still on the honeymoon!

Most jealous!

It's not yet road-safe here in Edmonton. I wouldn't even take the KLR out on these roads, despite seeing the old men on Harlies scooting around on the main drags. Too many rocks, not enough warm bike storage so I can wash all the bike destroying salt and I'd be worried about wiping out.

Rest assured, as soon as we see a bit of rain here to wash the roads a bit cleaner, I'll be out on the KLR first and the Super Ten about 2 weeks later.

Enjoy your riding, we all know May long weekend is going to bring 8 feet of snow. :p
