I finally got an opportunity to take her off road. My brother and I spent the weekend running around the forest roads and well access roads of Allegheny National forest. I don't know where to start. She was just outstanding. We got into some places that at first looked kinda iffy, we splashed through mud puddles, and even caught some air. ::26:: I was confident with the bike right from the start. There were a lot of rocks involved and several hit the ALTRider bash plate so hard my brother heard it over the intercom. Yes, she's a big girl but handles very well on roads that can only be called roads because there are 2 parallel tracks through the woods, (though in more than one instance not even that). Though I have an ABS off switch I never felt the need to use it. I learned not to forget to use TCS2, and that she has an annoying habit of throwing sand up in my face, it feels like running through an eternal mosquito cloud. It is also a mud magnet. My brother's KLR looks like it was washed in muddy water, the S10 is covered in clods and clumps of grass. ::025::
My brother gave me some crap about buying such a large heavy bike, and told me I wouldn't be able to ride such a thing off road. He was concerned that he would have no fun this weekend because I would not be able go anyplace fun. WRONG! Neither one of us are actual "dual sport" riders. He skill with the KLR is improving and one day I may have a hard time matching him off pavement, but for now we are pretty evenly matched in where we can go.
