Hi all,

Well, after just over a month of owning my Super Ten and I’ve clocked up 2000 miles and all I can say is that it’s brilliant and in my opinion, it’s much better than my R1200 GS....eg, it didn’t break down ::013:: ....I’m easily pleased!

Admittedly, most of those miles have been racked up on a trip to the south of Germany (Scotland, England, Belgium, Holland, Germany and back again!) and the bike was sat in the garage at home for a week as I’d done the first 600 miles much earlier that I’d anticipated and had to wait for the service booking I’d made when I bought the bike :D That was a long week of waiting.

Hit the 1000 mile mark when we got into Germany - just in time to allow me to open it up above 4700 revs and hit the unrestricted autobahn O:)

The only time I could tell the bike was fully loaded was when putting it up on the centre stand ( got the hang of it in the end!) and had no problem pushing it through customs when getting off the ferry in the Uk ( took an hour to get through and apart from having the fuel gauge flashing empty and not wanting to waste any fuel, I wasn’t going to sit idling and creeping forwards for an hour).

The tall screen on the Raid edition ended up being put in it’s lowest position as the vacuum it created in the higher positions at speed along with the buffeting made me feel a bit sick and short of fresh air - it was hot there compared to what I’m used to :D

The engine is still tight - I’m guessing it’s going to take a while to break in properly.

One thing I was trying to work out was the electronic pre-load settings - although the manual says that there should be no weight on the bike when setting it, I was wondering what other people’s experiences are as I originally set it for rider and luggage after I’d put the luggage on. Felt ok after I’d done it and even after removing the luggage for the days when it was just local riding and setting the preload with just we on the bike, it was comfy.

I set it back to just rider yesterday after getting back home and taking all the luggage off with me standing next to the bike and it felt a bit stiff / hard suspension wise. Should the preload be set with the rider sat on it?

All in all, a great 2000 miles and I can see this bike taking over from the car, especially as the weather protection seems great.

Cheers!

When you adjust the preload it remembers the damping settings used.

I guess I missed the part about not having any weight on it while adjusting. I'm always sitting on it when I set the preload. And, obviously, I'm also on it while adjusting the rebound/dampening on the fly. I took off once, on the FJR, before the preload had adjusted, and wondered why the screen was flashing at me. But it didn't break anything. ::001::

I suspect the suspension will take a while to break in (as it were) as I’ve being setting the preload as per the manual.

Plus, I can’t really tell the difference between the damping settings when riding the bike...but then again, I’ve been enjoying myself too much on it to really notice.

I guess I got very used to the feel with fully loaded luggage on good European roads as opposed to the tarmac patchwork excuses we have around here :D

Still not really used sport mode....spent one journey with it on and went back to Tour mode as the bike is so smooth compared to the BMW R1200GS, I was ramping up the speed without realising!

Still wondering whether to look a an MRA X-Creen ( probably the clip on type) just to get rid of the buffeting when the screen is raised.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

It's been MY experience that the worse the roads, the better the adjust-on-the-fly works; especially when loaded. Also, I NEVER use "T" anymore. Once I recalibrated my right wrist to "S"...."T" feels like my clutch is slipping. ::26::

I compared with shorter and taller windscreen (Raid too) and after first 1000 kms I ended the taller screen with MRA and lowest position. MRA is the same I had with 2011 Tenere 30 000 kms. Old Tenere had bigger screen too. MRA works fine taking off buffeting and noise.
