Filler plate stereo???

Had an idea yesterday at work. Have seen people post about adding a filler plate below the instrument cluster and wondered if anyone thought about a small water resistant stereo and speakers to accent the rumble of my TBR can out back. I wonder if a siruis/xm unit would work with two small marine speakers. Not the loud as hell HD setups but just enough to add to the ST soundtrack while out cruising around. Don't like the earbud deal as I feel that blocks out too much of the sounds around you ie. Emergency vehicles, and what not.

Thanks Mike

I just use the Sena 20S intercom. When close to towns or everyday commuting it has the FM radio. Beyond that range, the bluetooth connects to music and everything else on the phone.

I have had the Harley's and a BMW with the built in radio and speakers. Never really cared for the speakers, and with the volume you need to hear them at speed, they are rather loud when stopped. And that was with the speed sensing volume. I ended up just wiring the radio's on the bikes for using earbuds on them. The earbuds block about the same amount of sound as most ear protection, and I will not ride without anymore with my hearing is screwed up enough already. Bonus is the radio in the ear is great for tinnitus.

I use earbuds with an XM radio on the S10, and have no problem hearing traffic around me. I actually think that I hear a little more than in my truck with the windows rolled up.

My radio is mounted on a RAM ball. Guess it would look better mounted like you are thinking, but now you have to also find a way to mount the antenna. My setup has been used on many bikes without any modification.

The idea is nice, I enjoyed using the stereo speakers when I rented harleys a couple of times.

However, in public and at stop signs and traffic lights... they are annoying, and rude to others. No one likes to hear other peoples music, especially blasting right next to them. As HeliMark said, you wont hear them at speed either until you really crank it.

With that being said, I also have a set of SMH10 Sena bluetooth speakers in my helmet and you can adjust the volume to be as soft or loud as you like, with better audio quality and the plus of not annoying the hell out of people around you or in nature. Plus the added benefit of taking calls or making them hands free while you ride if you wish to do so!

My first thought when I saw this was that any speaker you find that would fit in that area would be too small to be effective while moving. I am also a Sena user, and used custom mold earbuds with mine. Far more comfortable, and long lasting battery life, with the earbuds pulling double duty to attenuate the wind and road noise.
