1) I see talk about the locks falling out of my Yamaha luggage. Is the cure Lock Tite on just the 2 screws that show up when you remove the round rubber cover on the inside of the bag? Seems my dealer did put blue Lock Tite, which is what I think I have seen in the threads here. I just put red on. Is that a bad idea?
2) want to lower my shift lever down a tad. I have seen posts here of adjusting by changing the length of the connection rod. Being a worrier, I wonder if that changes the geometry of the setup in a bad way, and maybe I should have removed the connection on the transmission shaft and moved over one spline on that shaft instead, leaving the rod the same length?
3) is there a thread here I can't find along the lines of "Hey newbies, here's all the answers to your first 2 weeks questions?"

thanks

- No problem changing the length of the connection rod.

- Do NOT install the locks without the blue loctite.

thanks for the replies, but I asked if red is ok? seems like if blue is good, red lock tite is better?

Kurt
Red is too much and you might not be able to get the screws off if needed. Blue is best. I am on my second set Tenere and had to replace one of the panniers on the 2012. Had to remove the lock. Red loctite would have sucked big time.

Kurt

No, since red needs heat to remove.

A question about questions? LOL

Seriously, the bike has been in production for close to 6 years, so you are right in that you are more joining the family than exploring new territory. What I recommend to newbies is to spend a couple of hours simply playing with the search box and going through the stickies in the Tech area. While it sounds kinda simplistic, you'll probably get 80% of your answers starting off with the search box by trying the words:
noob question
and then
newbie questions
and
newbie modifications accessories

After that, the usual questions and answers typically are what accessories people like most, so just search on which one you are interested in at the moment, be it sump plates, crash bars, seats, windshields, foot pegs, top boxes, panniers, etc.

Have fun and DO come back when you feel the need.

Red locktite was a bad idea. Did you unscrew the screw and apply it to the threds or just put a dab on the tip of an exposed screw?
Lengthening or shortening the connecting rod won't change the geometry. Slipping the assembly off the shaft a moving it will change the geometry.
Remember, on one end the the nut is lefty loosey, but the other end is righty loosey.
And I too have thought an FAQ folder might be pretty nice.
