Skid plate or ECU flash on 2014? On the ECU, I would appreciate some of the things I hear about a flash helping smooth out this bike. On the skid plate, I plan on going off road some but not until I get my skid plate. Both are not cheap.

Search is your friend to find countless threads on each of these topics. Skid plate is a necessity, it just depends how hard you are going to test it. Re-flash on Gen2 is subjective, much more than it was on the Gen1 bikes.
