Melty dash is certainly a problem with the Tenere stock and touring wind screens. Maybe worse for me since I live in a sunny place and park outside all day. My solution is to cover the wind screen. A helmet bag, the soft one that typically comes with a new helmet, fits perfectly over the small screen. A slightly larger sack, like a book bag, fits over the tall screen. Easy to carry, easy to get on and off.
As to the subject of this thread - farkle remorse, I've been pretty lucky. Researching things on this forum helps a lot! I bought one farkle that I rarely use - V-Stream medium (22") wind screen. I have no complaint about the product itself, being of good quality. It just turns out that I don't like tall screens. I wear it for the coldest month or two because it gets the wind off my shoulders. I have a Wunderlich adjustable wind screen mount that is fine for the OEM shields but not sturdy enough for the 22" screen. That means I have to "hard mount" the big screen and darn it, I'm spoiled for an adjustable screen. The large screen really communicates cross-winds by tugging on the bars in a way that the smaller screens don't. I also don't like looking through wind screens. On the highway, where my vision is focused well ahead, I look over the screen - no problem. On slower goes, especially on tight trails or very twisty mountain roads, where my vision is close in, the screen is distracting.
Anyway, this is not a condemnation of the product, more about the lesson that I had to buy it to figure out my preferences. Ergonomic things are so individualistic that you can trust that your results will be different than other peoples' results.
