HI I just got my white 2013 and really happy about the bike.
I am having trouble installing the factory topcase however....
My key does not turn at all after I install the cylinder into the slot and tighten the lugs.
When I look inside of the slot, there is no mechanism connecting the key cylinder the locking mechanism of the box at all?
How does this thing work? Also the locking tab does not close all the way. It came a little open and you can pull it, but does not close all the way.

Anybody encountered similar situation? I'm really confused with this thing. Any comment or help will be appreciated.

I don't have the OEM boxes, but I do recognize your question. Your description is identical to how it's been described by others.

So, the answer is here. Several times, I'm betting. :)

Congratulations on the rare White S10; we stand out from the blue crowd :)

There's a small screw that locks the "lock" hook open in the top box - leave that alone until the lock is in place.

The metal plate that you secure to the inside of the tumbler mechanism (with locktite) has to align with tabs molded into the plastic components of the lock mechanism. Align the metal plate with the parts of the lock mechanism that it rotates, then line up the lock tumbler with it and secure with the two screws. Now take out the little screw that keeps the lock hook in place.

You may find that once you've got it all together you have to turn the lock a bit before it "clicks" with the plastic stuff in the box that it operates. I found the process very frustrating and contemplated giving up before finally succeeding. Once the box is on the bike (having turned the key to the left so that the little handled flips out) you need to push down on the box from inside while pulling out the little flap handle until it seats, then gently rotate the key to the vertical position. When locking the box push down on the top of the lid to help the lock as you rotate the key - the plastic innards of the lock don't feel very sturdy but it all seems to work adequately once it's in place.

Don't give up!

Hey Kevin thanks so much for the detailed instruction!!
I will read it several times and try again.
Yes I love my white Tenere! There was a grey one at the showroom also but for being a long time yamaha guy and all.... I went with the team color. Again thanks and have fun / ride safe.
