Hello all, has anyone tried to modify the factory muffler to make it louder? On my previous bike there was a easy way to drill out the baffles and make it a bit louder. Thanks!

yep, if you take the cover off, then you can enlarge the opening.
It will do nothing but make it louder, and fartier ::025::
the issue is the weight. Ditch it for a better exahust (leo vince comes to mind) or you can go full hog, and make one custom.

OMFG, it's so damned heavy. I haven't officially weighed it but it seems easily 20+ pounds. Get rid of it ASAP. I've got a Yoshi exhaust and love it. Tons of farting when engine braking :D

Thanks, I was looking at the Yoshi. I just didn't want to spend $400 if the sound was the same.

Spoke to a First Edition S10 rider last week who had removed the cat from the original system which I believe is at the end of the headers where they enter the silencer.

He claimed a power boost and it sounded VERY throaty as he rode away.

I can attest to that. I removed the cat and installed a Yoshi , pcfc and tune from Anthony. The cat removal was the last thing I did and it really made a difference. My bike is pretty quick now.

I'm pretty sure the catalytic converter is in the header pipes towards the bottom (fat part over the skid plate). The oem slip on is strictly a boat anchor...

Greg you are right. I removed the headers and cut the top of the pipe where the 2 go into 1, peeled the the cut portion and began a tedious effort to clean out the cat. When it was removed and cleaned up, I then tigged it closed again. I chose the top of the pipe so if at inspection, they decide to look under the bike and exhaust, there is nothing to see. My welds are hidden by the frame etc.

sneaky smart!
good on you. I only have the skills to cut things...my buddy did all the intricate welding for me on my staintune slip on
