I've been playing around with Inkscape lately, making some designs that I can use to create custom decals for the bike and my helmet. I'm going to try printing them using special vinyl paper designed for inkjet printers. Here's a sneak preview of my first two designs. Relatively simple, but I'm still plowing through the mysteries of Inkscape....

Thanks, Madhatter. Since I'm only making the decals for my personal use and not for sale, I don't figure that Yamaha would take an interest; plus, I figure it falls under the Fair Use defense in trademark law.

I can't see Yamaha going after you for promoting their name. Now if you started a business with that as your logo, they would indeed take action. Free publicity is always good. You could also offer them for Free on this site if members pay for shipping and "handling" to cover your costs.

That's how I figure it too, TimLaw.

As far as producing the decals for others, I won't get involved in that. What I'll probably do is, once the designs are all finished and I have enough to fill up an 81/2" x 11" sheet, I'll make the .svg files available to whoever wants them. Once you have the .svg files, you can either print them yourself on a standard inkjet printer (using a special vinyl or waterslide paper), or take them to a graphic design shop; they can use the .svg file to make some pretty fancy die cut vinyl decals.

I've never tried the home decal thing before, so I'll report on it as the project goes along. At the moment I'm still designing additional decals, including the standard "what states I've ridden in" US map.

The Reddit motorcycle subreddit had a user that made /r/motorcycle stickers with the Reddit mascot. To avoid copyright issues, he sent them out for free and charged $5 shipping. He's been doing it for years, with Reddit's knowledge, and has had 0 issues. There are plenty of people here who would gladly jump to get that decal.

I see your point. I took that design from an image I found on the net; I think it's from a set of decals for an older S10.

I understand, here's an example of how it sounds:

These examples are using the words as they sound in American English, so the "E" without accent sounds just like it is, well, kind of, super, tense, sense, dense...

The "E" with accent sounds like the "A" of cat, hat, happy and some E's as it is...pet, tech, net...

Ténéré is pronounced as follows:

Tech minus "ch" = Té
Net minus "t" = né
Happy minus "ppy" = ré (this last one is the closest to what it should sound like)
Ténéré being French pronunciation the R before a vowel sounds almost like G so...it is between Ge from "get", and "ha" from happy, or hat, if that make sense...

Those look nice.
You could also go to a site like VistaPrint and have them embroidered on a tee shirt or polo. -JEP-

I actually looked at making an ST t-shirt but there are all these warnings and disclaimers about using trademarked logos etc. I decided it wasn't worth any potential legal hassle even though I doubt there would ever be any repercussions as it would've been 1 shirt...I wouldn't be selling them or anything.

I would put the odds at 10,000 to 1 that Yamaha would care about some small timer making a few stickers or tee shirts and even then, they aren't going to fly down a plane full of New York lawyers to sue you. The first thing they would do is sent you a letter saying to stop. Too much chicken little in the world. JMHO

I'll take that bet because I personally know a lawyer who writes letter to people using his organization's logo. They simply have a web-crawler program that runs once a day and gives him a list.

Looks great! except move the tuning forks away from each other, presently they look like testicles. Should be a little elongated... Great job! ::012::

I got a letter from Honda attorneys because I simply used their logo on top of the page of a web forum for a specific model of theirs. This was way back in 98.
