Eyup gang,

Anyone know the weight of the standard exhaust/end can in kg on the 2010/2013 S10?

Cheers

Yeah I weighed mine once, thinking about changing it. Forget which aftermarket can I was considering, but not one of the exotics, in the $400-500 range - it weighed 8lbs. To me a 3lb difference wasn't worth the money. Spend $800 on a titanium can and you can get to around 6lb, I believe.

Avoid Akropovic.
They dont utilise a crush washer seal like the Yamaha stock, and rely on a metal to metal seal.
Amazes me how others are not getting blowing around the joint.
Will be putting mine up for sale shortly in uk.

When I swapped over to a full Arrow system I weighed mine. Original downpipes were 3.6Kg, original end can 5.63Kg (Arrows were 2.26Kg and 2.97Kg). To be honest the weight saving is neither here nor there on a big pig like the S10.

Good to know. I have a new Akropovic that I purchased when I was bored waiting for my 2012 to be repaired. Then I traded the 2012 in on a 2015 ES. Haven't installed the Akro yet.

Are you saying your Akropovic muffler leaked?

I put plenty of that exhaust paste around the joint but as you slide the Akro pipe over the header pipe it pushes it all out as the clearance is minimal.
Also if you ever have to remove the pipe again it is a heck of a job to clean it all off before assembling again.
With the Yamaha crush washer system you just replace the washer, assemble, tighten and off you go....simples.

Did you ever find an aftermarket that uses a gasket? So far as I know there isn't an aftermarket slip-on that does. The Yosh uses two no gasket joints for their slip-on. You could go to a muffler shop and have them flare the pipe end so you can use a gasket.

my bathroom scale was about 13 lbs stock and 8 Yoshi, but it allways lies. I have no issue with my Yoshi with out a gasket. I was like ?? when it said I didn't need one. All the add ons pass the gains on a aftermarket can. Lets not forget the new sound ::012::

I have only had my Akra on 2 S10's for a total of 48,000 miles and not had this problem.

My full Arrow system uses the same system as the Akrapovic... no leaks here.

If this was a real issue there would be lots of complaints across the motorcycling community because every Akra pip I have seen employs this system.
