Exhaust burble

I am a new owner of a Super Ten. It is a great bike. It runs great except when I let off the throttle, there is an exhaust burble (not a backfire). It accelerates strongly. Is this normal? I have a two brothers pipe. The clutch jumper might help. It has 3500 miles. Thanks for any help.

I had this as well with my 2BR slip on and K&N filter. The clutch mod won't do it. I installed a 2BR Juice Box Pro and used their map for my bike configuration and no more "burble". Same people that make Power Commander make the Juice Box. I found that out through customer service when I got put in contact with someone at Dynojet. If you go to eBay, there is a distributor that has a great price. I called them direct and bypassed ebay and paypal fees, ended up being about 100 off of retail for a new unit. Installation took 30 minutes and 2 pints.

When we put on all this fancy shiny stuff it messes with a perfectly tuned set up from the factory, so I don't know why slip on folks don't push fuel controllers more. There are probably 100 pages on this forum about the plus and minus of aftermarket exhausts, headers, air filters, fuel controllers, and ECU mods. Grab a beverage and start digging. ;)

I just got a second hand two brothers pipe, with two tips, err a px I think and one that's gold in color.
so this burble, is it only on off throttle?
I had a GPR pipe on it before with no issues, stock filter
Hope my replacement spokes come in soon, so i can experience the burble ::015:: ::015:: ::015:: ::015:: ::015::

The burble/backfire is only when I let off the gas. Otherwise the bike runs great in both modes! I haven't checked the plugs to see if they are rich or lean. The pipe has a good throaty sound but is louder than I like. I'll try the quieting tip to see if that makes a difference.

Now to find a good backrest for the wife. I like the way the Corbin backrest looks but I am also looking for a topbox with a backrest, toolkit, reflective decals, and first aid kit. More farkles to get!

Thanks,
Randy

Thanks for clarifying that Randy.
What ever you do, do not buy the corbin.
Search the site, I posted about Corbin not
Doing their homework. When both seats are
Installed (Corbin front an back) the front seat
Will have difficulty latching.
With the back rest, there's very few choices
That will work with a rack/ box cOmbo.
I now have a Sargent front seat, and I'm
Quite happy with it.

Why do you guys go fitting Acme go-faster, noisy exhausts then puzzle why the fuelling gets screwed up and you sometimes even go slower? I owned an accessory and parts company for many years and I've seen all the claims by all the pipe manufacturers and the majority are just bulls**t if the noise level is to remain legal. Sure you MIGHT get one or two more horsepower if you do a remap on the fuelling and then again, you might not. You might save a pound or two but I bet you couldn't detect the difference if you didn't know. In any case, it costs a small fortune. Just twist the standard twistgrip further and more often for the same effect. Or do the clutch switch mod which does the same thing. Both are free and there are no side effects.

well, to each his own. The stock exhaust is a boat anchor, last time I checked it was 18 lbs. An aftermarket exhaust will be 8-10 lbs.
My last bike did not need any efi work (suzuki v-strom 1000 with staintune pipes, which saved 20 lbs over the stock units, and sounded excellent)
The tenere sounds like crap with the stock pipe, aftermarket much better.
And my 01 vfr sounded like a sewing machine, and with an aftermarket pipe sounds delicious ::26::

I could not disagree any more with your saying about the crap sounding of the stock pipe - !! IMO it sounds just fine to perfect. DEFINANATLY would NOT want it any louder - !!! Perhaps you got a "bad sounding" one - just saying ... it can happen ;)

Everybody likes a different note but "sounds like crap" - ? To me that statement sounds like you are over reacting like I am by writing this ... :D

I have no idea about the weight savings and think it may be so but have heard this figure can be overinflated by certain parties involved ... I'd maybe take a five to ten pound savings but at what cost - ? If I save five to maybe ten pounds and my bike wet weights 600 plus pounds and add me at 235 lbs with gear then what percentage is that-? less than 2% savings - ? My math could be way off - way off, but it's not much even with 95 HP ... (need a better math student here - sorry)

One thing I do think (IMO) is that many after market slip-ons look better. If I did it I'd go the whole switch, not just slip-ons and UI think save more poundage (?)
(Need fact checking here)
I should say I am not a fan of "loud pipes save lives" - I just don't get it-? I usually don't hear a bike with loud pipes until they are next to me if I am in my car and if I was changing lanes as I heard the sound .... squish. But then anything to get an edge on safety - after all I wear a yellow Aerostich suit and yellow helmet ...
Loud pipes piss most people off, yes and definitely -!!! but save lives - maybe

OK then
best,
dt

Again, it's about personal preference. I wanted a better sound, and less weight up top, since I simply took the weight saved, and promptly installed it on the other side of the bike ;D
I wanted some fuel when I'm out of the way, to date it got my out of a bind once, job done. So I had Dave 6 from the forum weld up a bracket to my givi removable racks, and fit a 1 galon rotopax.

Hey,

How about a picture of your Tenere with the Rotopax installed? I have the same Givi PLR367 rack mounts for the Trekker 33L bags.

actually, the fuel weighs more than the aftermaket can.
There was a bit of faffing around with it, as it needed to be shimmed to the right,
search the forum for my posts, and I did a decent job of explaining the procedure.

I love my gear driven cam VFR's (sewing machine whine) sound. I would never do anything to cover that up with increased decibels. But like you said personal choice, everybody has their own preferences.

What a refresher to see my old post! I switched the stock and the two brothers pipe on my 2012 ST multiple times and ultimately liked the quieter stock exhaust best. I now have a 2014 ST with stock exhaust. I really like the 2014 better due to cruise and heated grips. I like the stock exhaust except for the weight. Guess I need to lose more weight instead.
Best wishes to all!
