Ok, just so not to rehash anything (Checkwrecks please delete/ merge this if you see fit) but I have a '12, thinking of changing up to a '14 spec (ES or plain jane) as it's coming up to 15k miles and not knowing how the PO rode it although service history is there. I would like to know how common is it amongst the Euros to change the clutch basket and or CCT, I know lots in the US have done these and they tend to rack up higher miles, but not so sure how many have done it in EU. The reason is, should I change the CCT and basket and do the reflash and keep the '12 or just be done with it and go for a '14? Yes I know the newer spec has CC and ES has heated grips e-suspension etc. But is it worth the £4k change over figure for one? Also post your results if you can.

hi DD.

Can't speak for the euros, I was only born there, but do not reside :)
I'm facing the same dilemma as you. My early delivery 2012 has 55 km on it, with a '14 basket (highly recommended $70 from Karson, delivered to my door!! no you will not find this deal again, as yamaha have corrected the typo....msrp $340...typo $40 :D), manual cct, $70 (again, as you get closer to the 50k mark you should think about changing the cct, cheap insurance), AC's ECU flash 4250 return delivery(faster opening throttle on S mode, and a T mode that feels close to stock S mode, again, best money spent).

That said, it will be 4 yrs soon that I have had the bike, and I'm sort of itching for a new one, but, I have not tried a new 2014, should be able to ride one this sunday to compare side by side.

With the above changes, unless you really need the CC, closer bars (10mm up, 10mm closer) and the latest and greatest, then yes.
But in my case, the CDN dollar is worthless, and I was hoping to find a cheap leftover 2014 non es ($13500-$15500 all in), transfer all my bits over to the new bike, and sell mine on for $9500-10500.
That said, I cannot:
A: Justify selling my bike because it simply works very very well
B: Cannot find a 2014 for the price that I was willing to spend..and I'm stuck with having to buy a 2015 for $15500-16500
C: Can't be bothered to sell mine second hand, as a trade in would not make sense. I may get $7500

So to sum up. For a very small outlay of ($340+70+250)...errmmm $660 or so, you have a 2014/2015 of sorts...
4000 thousand pounds is nothing to sneeze at.

I just fancy one for the cruise control - but that is only to get to Switzerland where the corners are more easily ;)

Considered Clutch Basket, but do not really find vibes annoying, but do get numb hands on long runs (then again that used to happen on four cylinder bikes so may just be a waste of money.

CCT looks cheap enough and a no brainer, I think the Big Service plus CCT in the U will cost me about £600, cost to change is probably about £4k, so I will keep my 2011 bike as the £3.5k difference would get me another nice bike in the garage :) and with my headers and custom map plus all my suspension work I would probably find a new (or newer) bike is not as powerful or sweet handling so would probably immediately want to do some work.

Flashes are now down to £200 so much less of a factor if you just want to de-restrict your bike, so unless the vibes really bother you I would just service it, pop in a new CCT and get the flash done and keep the £3k you save for tyres / fuel and looping around Andermatt constantly.
