[The following post was split off of the big thread about how to adjust the suspension, because of the inherent differences that the ES models have. Rather than get lost in there, you all can now have this thread for the ES.
There are already threads about changing the springs which you can find with a quick search. - CW, Mod.]

So what does this mean for the ES model? Since we have different settings (no separate rebound and compression as far as I can tell), is the recommendation basically to go high on the preload (like 2-up with luggage for my 195 lbs plus 40 lbs luggage) but then dial the damping to "soft"? What have people found that works best on the ES (since I am not in the market for a new suspension for this great bike)

That is what I do (205lbs), pre-load at 2 riders + luggage always. Hard +2+3 when riding twisties, and soft+1 for freeway commuting.
I am planning on changing the shock spring once I become smart enough to understand the posts taliking about it.

At 230 Lbs without riding gear been riding 2 passengers + luggage at Soft +2/+3 with minimum luggage since I got the bike.
At Soft +3 it did a relative good job at controlling the fore and aft weight transfer due to the too soft rear spring, I sometimes used higher damping Std 0/-2 in the twisties but came back to the Soft +2. Didn't feel the need to as I felt it added harshness in the fork, however if you accelerate hard and do late braking then it will reduce the seesaw effect.

From the beginning I knew I needed to change the rear spring, with the left peg feeler and center stand removed the ACD skidplate has had contact with the road on a couple of occasions.
As I started to load the rear (luggage) it became necessary to address the rear spring stiffness in order to have the proper bike geometry, this is addressed in my SRSP 6022 Racetech tread and Karl's re-springing tread.
Stock suspension is good, rear spring is weak for anybody weighing more than 170 Lbs.
@Ostion, I will answer more clearly your post in the Racetech tread.
Cheers
