I weigh 230 pounds. Have Outback topcase on, racks for panniers, crash bars. I find that with ES set at 1 helmet, soft, -3, I get a really nice smooth ride without getting jarred by small quick bumps.
Just curious what other folks find is the ideal setting for normal highway 50 to 60 mph casual riding????

Thanks!

I prefer a firmer ride, so I use the helmet + luggage with my side cases and top case fitted and about 1/3-1/2 full. I've even fitted a 96 N/mm rear spring (OEM is 75N/mm). The ride is still smoother than my ST1300 and I feel I have bit more control. I also weigh 230-235

I usually run mine on one helmet, soft +1 solo (90Kg), but can quickly change, when needed; that's the beauty of ES. There doesn't need to be a standard/ideal setting & IMHO the system needs to be worked regularly to aid it's wellbeing.

It's a shame one has to stop to change the pre-load (helmet/luggage settings), but I guess making this available on the fly would have meant huge over-engineering for the servos?

Well i run helmet plus luggage with the damping down a few clicks for just me with no luggage day to day and it works for me. I come from sportsbikes so its still plush and comfy for me but handles well and is great over the bumps. I leave it even if i bungee a bag on the back when i go touring.
So higher preload but slightly less damping on the helmet plus luggage setting worked great for my Alps trip on varied road surfaces with a 40 Liter bag and tool kit on the back.
I will get brave and go softer at some point but at the moment i am enjoying the slightly firmer but still comfy / good handling ride.
