Error Code 42

I rode in some serious mud yesterday and got stuck a few times. After some serious wheel spinning, I noticed the check engine light was on. It is showing error code 42 which I believe has something to do with the speed sensor but I'm not positive. I hosed the bike down and figured it would clear itself by this morning, but it hasn't. What might I be missing?

Here is a pic i took, I also posted it on ADV.

Ah crap! Stupid autocorrect on my phone....whoops
I think that's the same code my bike was showing when I had some work done in Medellin recently. The tech cleaned the rear wheel ABS sensor and cleared it.

You removed the wheel and cleaned the sensor ring? You could put the bike up on the center stand, pull the sensor from it's hole, then flush with a garden hose while spinning the wheel.

Did you enter the diagnostic mode and clear the code? If it still exists, it will simply come back. If your clean up job took care of the problem, it may not just re-set, it may need to be cleared w/in the ECU.

EricV, thanks for this. I've cleaned and tested everything fully, disconected and reconnected the battery, and rode it for a while and it still hasn't cleared. Could you point me in the direction of the diagnostic mode process? Thant must be what I'm missing.

Thanks!

Here is the sticky on getting into the diagnostic mode. http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=1974.0

It's in the technical section of this forum. That particular one deals with changing the CO settings, but it will show you how to get in, and there may be another on running and clearing the diagnostic info. I don't have the time right now to look it up in the FSM. Hope that helps.

Google is your friend; http://www.r6-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117266
Re: how to reset fault codes chapter 7 covers it. basically once you get into the diagnostic mode, scroll to code 62. then flip the kill switch off to on to back off. or visa versa. that will clear the stored codes. *note, code 61 is the history and shows you all the stored fault codes (if any) getting in the diagnostic mode starts on page 338 (7-6)

Found this in several places. Rhino, R6, Grizzly...

I had the same problem

To solve any code problem

Remove the connector of the fuel pump under the tank, two plugs

Press both buttons of panel simultaneously

Turn ON the keys

hold still so more 8 seconds

and DIAG appears, IF CO appear, just press the left to change When DIAG appers press both buttons for more two seconds them appears DIAG D:

reset the diag 62 and 63, just touch the kill switch, in any direction,

KEYS TURN OFF

Connect the fuel pump

done

The jumper-wire-under-the-seat trick brings up 'diagnostic' as well as CO, doesn't it? Coolness.

well-minded
What procedure is easier:

under the seat ( I have not tried) or under the tank?

I learned today that there is no need to remove the seat and cut wires, or remove the tank and un-hook the fuel pump. The process Lobo described is basically correct. With the key off, press and hold both buttons at the same time.

While continuing to press both buttons, turn key on and keep holding the buttons for 8 seconds.

You will then see this:

Let go of the buttons, the press both again for 2 seconds. After 2 seconds you will then see:

From here you can scroll through the codes using either button. As Lobo said, to clear the codes, you then toggle the on/off switch. Then turn the key off and the codes will be clear. I hope this helps and makes it easier in the future.

Ok, very good with pics, thanks

I tested it this morning, it was easy to access the DIAG,
but at the moment I have no errors to reset

Remember
D: 63 toggle the on/off Kill switch (the red one),
D: 62 toggle the on/off Kill switch (the red one )

and key OFF

Is there a list somewhere that shows what anyting means once you get in Diag mode?
I know how to clear the malfunction codes, but other than that....
Just curious.
