My 2012 runs fine but the engine light comes on briefly when I let off the throttle and it is in gear. Nothing else is shown on the dash. How would I get to the diagnostic mode on the Gen 1 bike?

Thanks,

Larry

Are you referring to the light that comes on when the bike stalls? If this is the case your problem could be idle-related.

To get into Diagnostic mode:

1. Key Off. Kill switch Off.
2. Press n hold the 2 buttons on the dash, turn key to ON and continue holding for 8 secs.
3. DIAG will show on the dash. Press the 2 buttons simultaneously for abt 2 secs and it will enter into diagnostics.
4. You will need the service guide to check the codes and its relations to the error code and diagnostics code. From memory I think it is either 61, 62 that will show a history of error code.

I had the same problem for a short while and it turned out to be that rubber cap that's on the throttle body. When you are synchronizing the throttle bodies it's on the right side double check that rubber cap. On the left side where the other hose goes from the throttle body to pressure monitor. My engine light would come on during deceleration for a couple of seconds.

Had to edit this....sorry about the not clear writing. I was hurrying using voice recognition while getting on an airplane last night....

Sounds like the fuelling is getting confused when you shut the throttle down. Hopefully the codes will help tie it down. Could be an air leak, as Xclimation suggests, could be the O2 sensor. Are you running a standard muffler/pipe with cat, or an aftermaket system?

Awesome! Thanks for all the quick replies!

Juan - Yes on the light, but the bike runs fine.

2daMax - Thanks for the info. I finally found it in the service manual. I didn't think it was under Fuel Injection.

Xclimation - I'll check that tonight. I bet you are on to something.

Squibb - All stock

It ended up being a rubber cap on a vacuum line. The cap had cracked in numerous spots. Replaced it and all is well. The line was on extension that was put on the left side to make syncing easier.
