I started the bike yesterday to ride over to my brothers/nextdoor place (large properties, about 1km away).
I noticed immediately that the engine check light was on. It's not unusual for me to see lights on the dash illuminated as I have quite a long gravel driveway and am always spinning the wheels up coming and going. This was different though as I had not seen the engine check light apart from coming on with the key and going off immediately after start up.
The bike seemed fine apart from the fact that there seemed to be no traction control via the engine missing when it would normally cut in. ABS light still lights when wheel is spun up though.

I havent looked at the diagnostic/codes yet as I am having trouble getting my head around the procedure (brains in other places at the moment).

Anyone got any ideas of how they can point me in the right direction for fault finding with this particular light?

Greg.

does it indicate a fault code number where the odometer normally is displayed?
I take it you have the workshop manual? see 8-73 and earlier pages

Greg.
You should be displaying a 2-digit fault code in the lower part of your meter assy right now without going into any kind of diag mode. Once you get that code, it's easier to isolate the problem.

The engine warning light comes on if the traction control system has been disabled. The TCS is reset by turning the key off and then on. The engine warning light will go off after the bike reaches 20 kph. However, if the clutch switch has been shorted out, the engine warning light will not go off. I had to return the clutch switch to normal in order for the engine warning light to go off. See page 4-20 of the owner's manual.

Do you have the clutch switch shorted out? This might be the cause of your persistent engine warning light.

Thanks for the input guys..

Yes John, I do have the switch shorted so I will remove that as soon as I get a spare moment and trial it and report.

Problem solved--- Thanks Guys. The fault light thrown was indeed a result of the short link in the clutch switch.
Removed the link and the light stayed off.

Greg, did you remove the link, clear the light, and reinstall the link?

Nah, left it out for the time being Tim.
I havent ridden the bike yet as its bucketing down here at the moment and I couldnt be bothered donning the ATGATT.
Just ran it on the stand short enough to switch off.
I actually have renewed interest in a PC and re-flash but bucks are low so it will have to wait.

So are we saying that the much lauded clutch switch short out for more power automatically leaves the engine warning light on until you cancel the mod?

no, only when you switch TC off and keep the clutch switch shorted - that's why I have a "complex" relay/switch combination to activate my clutch power mod

::026:: The clutch switch mod is still the best "free" mod to do on this bike! Small price to pay.....
