End of my rope: unbearable noise and/or turbulence

my comments relate to my 2014/gen 2 but the differences between the two are minor. Don't let the complaints confuse you: if it works for you, it works. Think of it this way, they must have designed it to be ideal for somebody, apparently you are that guy. As a left handed, flat footed, double jointed, long torso'd pumpkin head I, on the other hand, rarely find things that work stock for me. 'Go try to find a left handed circular saw sometime....

... not because I have one for sale but the Givi D447ST Windscreen has been great on all my short and long distance rides. I am 6-3 tall.
The above comment is based on riding with a Shoei Qwest. Meanwhile with my Schuberth C3, the noise is unbelievable. Hard to understand when my Schuberth is the greatest with my Kawa C14.

Are most of these posts referring to Gen 1 bikes or Gen 2 as well?

I found when going from the Gen1 to the Gen2 that the newer OEM tall windshield was perfect for me, whereas I went through (I think) 4 windshields on the Gen1 before finding the Parabellum Medium worked.

I've only been riding for a little over two years now. My first bike was a Star Stryker (no windshield). After 9 months of no windshield the S10 is a dream. Stock screen all of the way up in temps below 50 and all of the way down during warmer times. I didi notice a lot of head wobble at speeds over 80 with the screen in the third highest position so I know what buffeting feels like. My very limited riding career likely is paying dividends to me not knowing just how good it can be (blissful ignorance). I do notice a major increase in noise with my Bell helmet versus that of my Gmax. It makes me wonder what difference a premium helmet would make. best of luck.....

Hey, Dr. Thunder. Did you get your winglets in yet? Did they make a difference? I just posted about my DIY givi airflow screen in the "what did you do today?" thread. I'll post more results there. It might be an option for you depending on your height. (I'm 5'8")

Apologies if I was a bit "blunt". Its just that I have never come across this buffeting you are on about on any bike I have ridden.
Nice ,knowing your ignorance is a good sign , if you are not in his shoes then you have no opinion..

Got 'em today, and for the very fist time since I got the bike, I enjoyed what I would call a tolerable amount of noise, and no buffeting. This was with the stock screen and the TT mount adjusted all the way up, and leaning back as far as it can lean. There is still room for improvement for sure, and I'll still be tinkering. But, I can actually ride it on the freeway and, you know, enjoy it now :)

Side note that is a little annoying: I ordered my Madstad bracket on the same day I ordered these winglets. The winglets were not in stock when I ordered them, so the place had to make them first, then ship them. I did not pay any expedited shipping, etc. Oh, did I mention that they came from England? The Madstad comes from Florida. I paid extra for 2-day shipping. Florida is 3 days for me via UPS ground, but I wanted to make sure I got the thing as quickly as I could so I ponied up. I have no tracking number as of yet, and I've emailed them three times just to get someone to tell me that they actually are going to send me a bracket at some point, no response.

I have no problem at all as long as someone will communicate with me. Maybe they're out and have to make more, or maybe there is some other delay. No problem at all. But don't take my $150 and then just ignore me. That's lame.

'sucks. Oddly, I got mine lighting fast. Then again I think I added that in late fall vs start of season, that may be part of it. 'Still, that doesn't explain a lack of reply, 'might want to call. From what I can tell they are not a large nameless, faceless corporation, 'just some enthusiasts.

Did you see the shipping date estimate on the website when you ordered your madstad? Mine was going to take 3 days to ship. It showed up I guess in about a week. I hope it works out soon.

FINALLY, some real success! I've got the aftermarket winglets that I mentioned before, the Madstad bracket, and now the MRA X-creen. With the screen tilted all the way back at max height, with the wing low and parallel, I've gone from intolerable to more than adequate I know that might sound like feint praise, but it is a massive improvement. I am confident that I'll be able to fine tune this solution to get even better performance. Thanks to all for the input, I greatly appreciate it.

I have a 2012 . I am 5' 10.5", but I have a long torso, yet short legs and arms sort of Ogar look. I went with a Cal Si mounted on original mounts. Used the lowest setting, and have calm fairly quiet air at all speeds and conditions. Definitely reccomend you look into.

I've been following this thread closely; I think I don't share any dimensions with anyone here (5'11" and a 36" inseam) but after trying madstad bracket and Yamaha tall windscreen with just a little (not a lot) of improvement in buffeting, and before I go spending $$$ on one windshield after another that do not help, I was wondering if you guys could tell me (if you know), where do you find the wind most comfortable, to hit you?

Currently I have the tall screen tilted way back so that the wind hits me at about nose-level, and that's the cleanest flow I've been able to find (Arai Signet Q).

Where do you put the wind on your bike?

Most comfortable for me is to have the entire helmet in ckean air, with air hitting me in the chest. But, that's a bias from my long history on sporty s/t bikes. Clearly this is less than optimal whel you sit up straight on an adv bike.

On this bike the only setup I've come up with that isn't awful has the air hitting the top 25% of the helmet. But, I'm pretty certain that this is mostly irrelevant as themain factor seems to be how 5he air is coming off the screen, rather than where. My screen ethos will always be thst less is netter, so I'm doing my best to stay away from the huge barn door thing.

Hi I am 6ft 2" and had the same issue so I fitted a MRA X - Creen Touring Screen which is specifically designed for the taller rider.

It comes in clear or smoked versions and costs £120.

Absolutely perfect after making the adjustments to suit my frame.

I may be the oddball here but I find the stock screen pretty good. I have it at the lowest position. I'm 6'3" with 32" inseam so long torso. I have my seat in the low position. My helmet is in clean air and the blast is mostly off my chest.

When I play with these things, one thing I do is to slowly raise and lower myself while riding to find the height difference between my head and the bike/fairing/screen that I like best. If that is a bit higher in the saddle then I lower the screen to reproduce that delta at my normal sitting height.
