-AF1 Racing
-$449 and shipping
-1.5 weeks
-no physical mods seen
-defaults to touring mode
-first ride yesterday- much smoother, no hesitation, leaps forward a bit harder , I'll have to re-train my throttle hand....... very worth it.

I've been busy with a house remodel for my son. Finally took the bike out for a 300 miler.
I'm happy with the changes, not dramatic, but just feels well sorted out. I swear the upper
gears seem to benefit from the reflash as much as the lower. Seems to pull harder in every gear.
Mine defaults to whatever mode it was in when it was shut off.

Mine defaults to whatever mode I left it in, too... And my re-flash was an ECUnleashed file done by Ed at AF-1 Racing.

I would agree with that 100%. The more I ride it, the more Ilike it, especially in twisty environments where I can use the added grunt coming out of corners. I let a fellow YST forum member ride it last week and he said he felt that it had more midrange punch and was smoother than his. He had already done the 3/4 turn TB sync on his.

But then again, AF-1 Racing is one of the very, very best shops in the business... And Ed, Jon, Micah, and all the rest of the staff are not in the motorcycle business, but also real riders and enthusiasts, as well. And they believe in customer service, and work every day not just to claim that, but to live it.

I can heartily recommend them for anything you might need, from ECUnleashed re-flashes for any bike, to dyno work, to accessories like Akrapovic, Arrow, Leo Vince, Ohlins, etc., to any kind of service work - especially on Italian motorcycles. For instance, one of the best and most experienced Ducati technicians in the country works for them, so they don't just specialize in Aprilia's. I've seen them tune everything from land-speed record two-strokes to Harley drag bikes, and everything in between.

Question for ya, big 'D.' I know that the various companies that do the reflashes encrypt their files, but I'm wondering if that is only so somebody else can't read the info, or does it block access by other tuning outfits? For example, if I added an Arrow header and didn't want to send my ECU all the way back to Italy and wait forever, I wonder if one could just send the ECU to AF-1 and have them overwrite the file?

To be quite honest, Tremor... I have no idea. I would have to assume that each re-flash outfit would have some sort of security encryption to avoid someone else from downloading their work off a customer's ECU and copying it, but I am not computer/code savvy enough to know how that would be done.

As for having Ed at AF-1 modify your Diapason flash... Well, I know that whatever programming is already in there *IS* downloaded off your ECU and saved, just in case you want to go back for some reason. I made sure of this before I purchased my ECUnleashed re-flash from him - that if for some reason I did not like what it did I could go right back to factory Yamaha OEM stock programming. This is one reason they need your VIN number; so they can keep a log of the re-flashes they've done and your original programming on hand.

So I guess to answer your question - I *THINK* they could overwrite your Diapason flash, and save it just in case. He won't let you go home with your original flash on a thumb-drive or anything... Something about his agreement with ECUnleashed... But he keeps it on file if you need it at a later date, and it is somehow encrypted.

But probably the best course is for you to chat with Ed himself. Drop me a PM and I will give you his phone number and direct e-mail address. I'm sure he can answer any question you might have, and he's a great guy to get to know.

Hope this helps just a tiny bit.

ooops- nope, with my AF-1 reflash, the Mode stays where I left it when last ridden. Rode all weekend, it really rips......
Is your bike stock and how many miles on it? Thanks for answering the ? Could you also tell us how it feels compared to stock?

Just for future reference, I contacted Ed, who contacted ECUunleashed. ECUu told him that he can in fact overwrite the Diapason flash.

I put K60 tires on 2300 miles ago. I get the TC light flashing in the first three gears on clean dry pavement. Anyone else seeing this with reflash?

I have a new Battlewing on the rear and since the reflash I get the TC light when going WFO in the first 2 gears on clean dry pavement. Might get it in 3rd if I had a K60 back there.

I think it's the tire. After reflash with the Metzler I usually had to hit some imperfection in the road to trigger the TCS light. Since putting on a K60 it's a lot easier to spin up the rear.

Just wrapped up a customers bike with some of the 'normal' after market parts. Headers, muffler, air filter, PCV & AT... One thing new was the FLASH..
(for a side by side comparison, my ST has all these parts with out the flash) After checking the bike, warming it up, Etc.. I took it out for a test ride. As others have stated, it feels smoother, revs faster, pulls harder, and is just flat out bad ass.. Im excited the difference between my bike and this bike, the only difference being the flash. And (T) mode is a WHOLE new monster... Ive thought to myself that this bike with the flash (and other goodies) verses my bike with the same parts, is this... The (T) mode with the bike with the flash feels similar to my normal (S) mode. When you switch the flash bike to (S) is the difference with and with out the flash.. Its a pretty big difference.. The power is very smooth and pulls FANTASTIC all though the rev range. I hate to say that it is another level above the headers - PCV - AT - muffler... It is better with the flash.......

Here is where I do a little experiment. After the test ride with the flash, I come back and ZERO'ed out all the PCV tables on everything.. The AFR, Etc... So now I have no fuel values and the PCV is not adding or doing anything. I go right back out. The bike is NOT the same. It does not pull as hard in the lower RPM's. and the power drops off and breaks up above 6K. The "power window" is now much smaller. The bike is still smooth and responsive but definitely NOT the same at all.. The rapidness of the RPM's is not the same with out the PCV either. Another thing that I noticed right off the bat in this little unscientific experiment was this, with the PCV & AT there was NO popping anywhere, anytime..... You take the PCV & AT away and there was popping right out of the gate. It would gurgle and pop during the short ride. The ECM is really good, but its much better with the PCV & AT. Im not sure what this says about the software in the ECM, but my experience tells me I want to add the flash to my ST. Im not racing, I dont want a race engine, that's not what this bike is about. But for overall enjoyment, this bolt on engine package of parts is very awesome ! After going back to the office, I reinstalled the PCV software I had just removed and the BEAST is back.. It had gone right back to being the best Super Tenere engine I have ever felt...

Being that I have had the opportunity work on many Super Teneres and have installed and ridden all the bikes with all different combo's of parts. Ive never felt a better combo that this set up PERIOD. This combo of parts, ECM, maps, pipes, Etc has transformed this engine into magic !

I just wanted to give you my perspective of this combo of parts. And the use of PCV & AT with the flash, and then backing out the software to have a back to back comparison. I also have my bike that has all the same bolt on parts minus the flash as an unofficial 'control'... Another thing I noticed with the flash is the bike tends to warm up faster. Also, if you come to a stop it tends to heat up much faster than my bike with out the flash. With my bike on average the temp will stay the same for 15-20 seconds or so before slowly climbing. With the flash it tended to raise the second I stopped and kept climbing until I took off again. I dont know if this is timing in the ECM software but the engine seams to be hotter.

After speaking to many people about the flash and some that have had the flash installed I had my ideas of what it would / could do.. After riding this combo of parts it is the best (((( IMOP )))) smoothest, most powerful, MOST FUN, Super Tenere engine you can get !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The parts list is such: Headers, muffler, air filter, PCV & AT, ECM FLASH = the most fun you can have with a Super Tenere ! ::008::

Aaaaaaaaaaaa YES.... very easy with the flash.... You need to ride around in TC1 or TC2 not to kill yourself with the flash.... :D

Thanks for the info, Jaxon. Did the customer's bike have the ECUunleased flash, and if so, was the flash tailored to his headers and pipe..as ECUunleashed tuning centers are capable of doing?

Thanks!

headers installed
muffler installed
air filter installed
PCv & AT installed
Flash installed

what does all this total out = $$$$ how much ??
