I hope this is appropriate to mention here ... Earl Scruggs died. If any of you are bluegrass fans, you know of him. In his day, he was the best banjo picker on the face of the earth. A sad day for country/bluegrass music. R

Thanks for the update, rem.

He was amazing and I was big fan.

My prayers go out to his family.

Yeah sorry to hear of his passing. I'm a guitar player and am strongly influenced by his 3 finger picking style. Dabbled a bit with the banjo in the 70's and studied his style for a bit.

My dad was an avid country/bluegrass fan and played both banjo & guitar.
Earl Scruggs & Lester Flatt could often be heard playing in our house.
Although I'm a 60's-70's rock-n-roll fan, the sound of a banjo always gets my foot a tappin'.
RIP Earl!

It is a great loss, he was an incredibly talented innovator. Kind of like losing Les Paul a while back.

Not just a picker performer...a true innovator. Took the banjo places where no others dared to tred with style and grace.

Just sold my Alvarez banjo due to lack of talent! For a long time I thought a great duo would have been Ricky Scaggs and Scruggs. the name Scaggs and Scruggs just has a nice ring to it not to mention the old pro and the younger pro touring together

I have a Nechville walnut Phantom, an OME, a Deering, a real Fender, a Desert Rose, an unknown custom made, and a Stelling. I got a little carried away several years ago.

I have one for sale with my friend in Maryland. http://www.turtlehillbanjo.com/images/Nechville/rem.html

I better trade a couple for some bike parts. R

I used to play quite a bit, but now I'm more of a banjo sitter than a banjo picker. They look nice on the wall.
