It was a very good July 20th! The rains of late have been refreshing, and this morning was a nice 80 degrees as Voltar and I went to Dublin TX for a great burger.
We covered about 350 miles, and a good portion of it was dirt.
It was first time I spent an extended amount of time on the dirt with the Super Canary.

This is the prize we kept our eyes on!

Dublin's little gas station / restaurant has a large selection of the locally brewed sodas to go with the burgers, tacos, fried catfish and all the great home-style food. The ladies who run the place are super nice... they start every conversation with "honey bunch" or "sweetie" and you can't help but feel good.

The Canary and DL were good partners in exploration - I was quickly finding that the Super Canary was stable and confidence inspiring on the dirt roads.
It was not jumpy at all, the steering was always precise and the front end never felt too heavily loaded. I took the opportunity test the ABS and Traction Control.
Locking the front wheel produced a clickity clackity sound and some pulsing of the brake - which felt just fine as it stopped the bike.
Gassing the bike to try an break loose the rear wheel resulted in a brief pause as the rear wheel slowed and regained traction - very cool, because on some looser up hills the TC would kick in and move you forward rather than kick the rear tire out.
I also noticed how the rather low 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears really worked well with the traction control and low-end power of the motor to keep the bike hooked up in the dirt.
No drama when slipping the clutch at low rpms - for those times when you need precise throttle and clutch control in the dirt. Impressive!

Voltar's Vault.

Plenty of dirt to be found in the area - you can stitch together really nice ride using the dirt to do short-cuts between paved FM roads.

No problems here for the Canary - I have a feeling I will be doing more dirt on this bike than I imagined.

It looks like a runner! Man, I'd love to have this as the support vehicle at RDS World Headquarters!

The house is not a runner, but cool none the less.

Recent rains meant little dust, which was awesome!

I am going to have to make another Dublin run soon.

It's a shame that corporate Dr. Pepper stepped on the throat of Dublin Dr Pepper and shut them down. One more piece of American nostalgia sacrificed on the alter of corporate greed. I was fortunate enough to take my family down to Dublin and get a tour of the factory before the change. Very cool! I've always been a Dr Pepper fan, or at least I was until they showed their true colors.

But that's all the more reason to ride there for a burger and support the town of Dublin. They have to be feeling the loss of their main landmark.

Agree, used to ride over there just to get a "fountain" Dr. Pepper, ( more syrup please). Also the child hood home of Ben Hogan for you golfing fans.

Glad you guys liked the Ride Report! I have found that since discovering the Dublin, Hamilton and Waco area, I no longer care to ride in the Hill Country (Leakey and such). Due to being overrun with the type of motorcyclist that are a loud, proud and a hazard. My wife and I rode our motorcycles around a poor guy who was dead in the road - did not negotiate the turn - and had no protective gear on.
Even locally near Austin - some roads are not safe at peak riding season. My brother and wife have both been clipped by riders coming the opposite direction who crossed the center line in a curve.
I now prefer to go North, rather than West.
