I currently had a set of Sidi Adventure Rain boots.....Good protection....not good for walking in, and they squeak.

I am going to replace them for next season with a pair of Forma Adventure boots.
::026:: I had the Sidi Adventures - great looking boot, very protective but that squeak, I kept looking around to see where Robocop was...

After I could stand no more squeaking I went and bought the Forma Adventures having previously owned the Diadora Mud (same boot out of the same factory) before the Sidi's. These are comfortable straight away and are great to walk in. The sole absorbs loads of vibration and so far they have been waterproof (tested in Scotland no less). I will admit they aren't as protective as the Sidi's but I don't crash every time I ride, but I do have to walk in them every time...

I have SG 10s for my MX boots but have never tryed them on the Tenere. I can't imagine living in them for a week or two on the bike and walking much or hiking around.
I have Icon Patrol short boots that are waterproff and I sure like them but they are to hot in the summer and don't breath good.
I have Thor 50/50 and they are my all time riding boot for vacations in the summer and warm weather.
When I rode to Alaska with my son in 2011 I was going to wear my Icons because they are warm and waterproff but my son said what will happen when we go through water crossings and you put your foot down and fill up your boots with water? Waterproff boots won't dry out and your feet rot in them. As it turned out he was so right [he always is when it is about riding] We got our feet soaked in streem crossings and with the Thor 50/50 they would dry out within a day and my feet wouldn't rot in them.

Aerostich Combat Lite. Easy to walk in, comfy right out the box. With proper leather food never a wet foot in 7yrs. They are made by Sidi and I have the less aggressive sole choice.

Good Luck,
Ed

I've never managed to get wet inside my Sidi Adventure GorTex. But I would be surprised if they wouldn't dry out. Vapor release is supposed to be one of the features of GorTex.

Love the boot, but can sometimes become fatigued with the squeak. When I do I hit them up with some silicone spray said to be safe for all modern waterproof materials (purchased at Dick's sporting goods). Gone through a can of the stuff over the year. Always quiets them down and has never caused me any problem with waterproofness.

Great protection, very comfortable, 12 month boot. From 25 degrees to 95 degrees have worn them on every Tenere ride since getting them back in 2013.

I think you are correct.
Gore Tex is probably the only way to go, Icon Patrols are not Gore Tex. Probably just a plastic bag.

Toucans are also GoreTex. I like that the toe is thinner to make it easier to shift.

I recently replaced a pair of worn out Sidi Canyons (which I really liked) with a pair of Gaerne Balance. The Gaerne feel broken in and comfortable right out of the box. They're comfortable to ride in and so far they seem like they'll be as waterproof as advertised. I'd definitely reccomend them.

I actually wanted the Toucans. They were supposed to be another month or two from being released when I was ready to pull the trigger. Placed the order for the Sidi and 2 minutes later got a notice from Revzilla the Toucans came in early and were shipping. Fortunately I've been very happy with the Adventures.

The Sidi Adventure GoreTex is significantly less stiff than any MX boot I've owned, but still solid enough to feel well protected. I was curious before buying if there would be any challenges with shifting. Never an issue.

Second vote for Gaerne Balanced Oil Boots. (I now understand why folks "go on and on" about them)

But ChecksWrecks IS spot on about them being less protective than motocross boots.
But I have motocross boots and am often not willing to choose them over the perfect "balance" the Gaerne Balance boots offer. (couldn't resist) For me they match the mission statement of the Tenere. I might be commuting, then going for a 200 mile street ride, and throw in a good dose of off-road and creek crossings. The Tenere was made for such a mix, and the Gaerne are too. I don't HAVE to carry different boots on an assorted adventure.

Not the best street boot. Not the best off road boot. Not the best walking boot. But really good at doing them all.
::026:: Well said, Snake!

Another vote for the AlpineStar Toucan boots, although I really liked the Gaerne's as well. The only reason I ended up with the Toucan's is because they had more ankle protection which was important to me because I use them for single track trail riding as well. Both allow you to walk comfortably off the bike which was also important since I like to get of the bike and hike around. If I was doing just touring and fire roads I'd probably go for a little more comfort and choose the Gaerne's.

Tried on Toucans and didn't like the fit. Way too much room in the heal for me. Wasn't crazy about the bulk around the calves either. Also tried on Sidi Crossfires. Tight in the toebox, not waterproof, and hard to walk in. Really wanted the protection but wasn't willing to live with the compromises of a real MX boot.

Ended up going with the Sidi Adventure Gore-Tex. In fact they just arrived today and I've been wearing them around the house for the last hour or so. Great fit out of the box. Haven't ridden in them yet so a little premature on the review, but also wanted to mention that I bought them from http://biker-land.de/. The price there was about $305 (+ $25 shipping) vs. $550 from Revzilla. I love Revzilla but don't love paying ridiculous tariffs on imported goods, and that's main reason for the almost $250 difference in price. The import duty is almost 40% on these boots. Screw that.

http://www.dutycalculator.com/popular-import-items/import-duty-and-taxes-for-sidi-adventure-goretex-motorcycle-boots/

Ordered the boots on Sunday, 11/16 and they arrived today. $25 and six business days to ship from Europe is not bad at all.

I never did get hit with the tariff. Just paid the price asked by the German vendor and never saw any other bill.

I'm going on one year with these Toucans (stupid name) and from day 1 (RMATV) the boots have performed as advertised. Dry, protective and comfortable. Very warm for cool temps but breathe well so sweat evaporates. Hot days I tuck my pant legs and open up the top of the boot to get air in and moisture out. Very stable footbed makes standing for long periods no problem. Sewed on sole. Lightweight. GoreTex... it's a good boot. That being said, the squeaking is ridiculous, buckles are a little fussy (Sidi buckles rock) and they are a huge hit to the wallet.

DD - Are you saying the feds may come calling for their 37.5% tax? How naive of me to think otherwise. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they have bigger fish to fry.

Since I was getting such a great deal on the Sidis and was already mentally prepared to spend the $550 full price, I also bought a pair of Daytona Road Star GTXs to replace my trashed commuting boots. But after wearing both around the house today I was surprised to find the Sidis more comfortable than the Daytonas. My jeans fit over both easily. No way jeans would fit over the Toucans.

Also took a ride today with the Sidis. Totally smitten with this boot! Definitely exceeded my expectations. And no squeaks yet! ::008::

That was a caution that some gave me. It never happened. Sounds like 20valves may have had a different experience.

I purchased the Sidi Adventure Rain and they are what I call a very serious boot. It's been at least a month and a half and they are breaking in... I think. Damn clunky boot! No leak yet! But squeak like crazy. My wife says, how can you stand that squeaking? Shifting is not easy with this boot either. Don't know why I thought I needed this serious of a boot. Oh yea and they are so big at the top none of my pants = jeans fit over them. I wear an Aerostich Darian jacket and pants. If I had it to do over I would not buy these for me.
