I sometimes change the Drive Mode from T to S and back while riding, when I forget to preset it before starting to ride (but you have to have the throttle closed). I've been doing this since I got my new 2013 S10 in April of last year, without any problems. I now noticed that the User Manual says "WARNING - Do not change the D-mode while the vehicle is moving". I wonder if this is a safety warning or a damage warning. Anyone knows something about this?

Could it be that at partial throttle settings the moving from T to S may give an increased power selection, without moving the throttle grip? And vice-versa, which could confuse people.

I have to be honest, I do it all the time while moving but throttle closed off................. oh well.
I imagine it's the same as the ' do not set your satnav while vehicle is in motion' statements from manufacturers, it's to protect themselves from claims by the stupid ::024::

I suspect this is a manufacturers 'arse covering' statement like always wear a helmet, don't drink and ride etc.

I truly believe it is a CYA by Yamaha, but the difference in modes especially going from T to S could throw some riders for a loop with the difference in excel and deceleration. Especially on the 2014 where there is a more significant difference in the two. S is not near as smooth as the T mode. My 2012 was similar in feel though.

It won't switch at partial throttle settings, you have to close the throttle.
