Don't touch the throttle on a cold start...?

I don't know, is this the case?

I have had the 2018 ST for a week now and have started it three times from cold. Such is my habit (from other bikes) of starting blipping the throttle and riding off, but I'm just wondering if I should be leaving well alone until the ST's ECU handles the startup and some warmth builds. Three times now, bike starts on the button but my blipping intervention has caused the bike to stall on every occasion. Next time I'm going to fire it up and leave it for a couple of minutes, no blipping; does anyone else have any thought please?

You are frustrating the computer. Let the fuel injection ECU do it's thing.

Wait till the needle sweeps and the fuel pump sound ends before pushing the start button.
Let it warm a few seconds minimum before heading out.
No blipping needed.

::026:: My routine is to start the bike before I even sit on it. Put my helmet on, mount, check mirror adjustment, turn on the music, and go. Essentially giving the computer time to settle in. ::001::

I first start my bike, when sitting on it, and ready to take off.
Then start, and take off. No problem..but still have to be gentle on the trottle, turn trottle slow.
One thing we can agree on, NO blipping.

Mine also stalls when blipping, especially when cold weather

Nothing fuel injected either wants nor needs the throttle to be touched when starting. The only glitch is the random 'clear flood' WOT that can bite out of nowhere.

Yup agree on all counts. Turn key, let computer spool up and display fully initialize. Then start bike and don’t touch throttle until you mount up and get ready to roll.

Blipping a cold engine is a bad idea whether it’s fuel injected or carbureted. The oil is still cold and flowing more slowly, worse, oil may not have reached all sections of the engine until it’s been running for 5-10 seconds.

FI does it all for you.. I wait after key turn till all is calm about four or five seconds then push the button let her idle.
I then get my jacket and all the other top rig on get on and go.

I read it someone for engines in general, 20 secs wait after start before gassing it to go, so as to allow oil to completely flow covering every part of the engine internals. I suppose for colder weather, wait 40 secs or so just to be safe.

I usually sit on the bike, start it up, and then wear my pair of gloves, so that gives me about 20 secs warm up before GO.

Also hold start button until bike fully starts.Dont let off if it just fires and might die.I believe this helped me avoid the hard start issue others have had.2012 with 51k.

Okay so all is well. Started it and left the throttle alone. Mounted the bike a minute later and rode off; no problem and no stalling.

Thanks for the help everyone...
