Don't EVER take a test ride...

As my signature "used" to indicate, I owned a Ducati Diavel. I made the mistake of riding by the local Ducati dealer on my way to the mountains and saw the "Ducati Experience" Tractor/trailer.

Thought I'd stop and test ride a Panigale to prove to myself that I'm way too old and achy for something that would bend me up like a pretzel. Well, the Panigales (2) were taken leaving Monsters, Streetfighters, Scramblers, and Multistradas. I opted for the Monster 1200s as it was the same basic engine as is in my Diavel but in a sportier package. Back in 2002 I had a Ducati Monster S4 Senna. So it was familiar.

Well, what a mistake. That Monster was absolutely AMAZING! While it is down about 18 hp due to tuning compared to my Diavel, its was only noticeable when starting "off the line". In Sport mode and being aggressive on the throttle, the front-end would come up, but the traction control, anti-wheelie, kept it to a minimum. The handling was absolutely telepathic. Maybe its the Ohlins suspension but it just went anywhere I even thought about going. Being a Monster it was also very comfortable just cruising…

I went home and told my wife how awesome the bike was. Her response; "So, you're replacing the Diavel…"

For me, its the perfect companion to my S10. Kinda like a sport car next to my SUV. The Monster will never replace my S10 as they are polar opposites in purpose and utility...

Here it is;

At least you got a response from SWMBO

I came home after visiting the National Triples rally last Saturday and told Gill I was considering getting a Triple again, having sold my last ones a couple of years back.

Yeah, never a good idea, I recently went by a local dealer with exotica parked up and saw a M V Agusta F3 Dragster, man, this is for me. Now if I could just lop off about 35kg and 6" I'd would fit me like a glove, oh, I'd have to bend like a circus freak to do it. No offence to any circus freaks on here.

good on you!
Great bike the new monster. Never rode one, don't want to, as I would definitely want one.
The MV looks amazing in person. The white wheels would be an absolute bitch to keep clean, even in regular riding.

for me, I have to keep my second bike sensible. FZ07 for the daily grind back and forth to work. Roughly 50km round trip, and parked outside all day. I can do that with a $8 grand bike. I couldn't do that with a $14 grand + bike.

I love naked bikes. They posses that natural speed limiter.

Just looked up that MV Dragster in detail. GORGEOUS! I'll admit I'm a Ducati fanboy when it comes my "sportscar" motorcycle. Had I seen that MV before now, I might have been tempted... its stunningly good looking.. Reviews also said it handled very well.

He should look up my blog. All the cheap, and not so cheap stuff is there.

Finally somebody who also refers to their wife as SWMBO. Got in the habit of that while living in the UK and watching to many "Rumpole of the Bailey". I even got my wife an sweatshirt that says SWMBO on it. She wears it all the time just to remind me who's boss. As if there was ever any question. ::)

Now if I could just get her on the Bike with me ...
