Does OEM skidplate have to come off for oil change?

Did a search on this but no results. Bike came with the OEM aluminum skidplate (aware of the rep but it works well on my commute :D ). Just wondering if I need to remove it to change the oil/filter. Thanks for the heads-up.

You can drain both sumps without removing it (done it no problems) and I think the oil filter can be removed too, not sure how much will spill from the old filter onto the sump guard though suspect a suitable rag may assist in catching it if you prefer not to take the guard off.

I would think it would be quicker and easier to remove it because it takes about 3-4 minutes to remove and I guess it would save alot more than that in faffing around trying to take the filter and the drain plugs out with it fitted. I took it off a couple of weeks ago to clean it because it had got covered in tar.

Doesn't need to be removed, but makes a real mess if you don't remove it prior to removing the filter.

I'm glad someone asked this question! I just bought a 2012 with Yami aluminum skid plate, crash bars and Yami side bags and wondered the same thing.
Thanks

It's quicker to take it off than the time it will take to clean up the mess you'll make of it pulling the oil filter.

Thanks for all the replies. I did do the change with it on, and yes the oil filter did drip all over the skid plate. Will probably take it off next time.

Howdy,
Some thing I stumble upon during my last oil change. Being a bit tired from the day but not wanting to lose all that heat in the oil from the just completed ride I put her on the side stand, stuck the pan under the drain plugs and pulled both. Left her there to drain overnight. Next morning I went down and as usual pulled the OEM plastic engine gaurd to drain the filter. Lo and behold the filter was bone dry! Not a drop of oil came out. So in the future I'll try to arrange my changes so I can let her sit overnight and will not pull the engine gaurd.
Later,
Norm
