Most on the forum have a long list of farkles including engine mods, clutch baskets, new CCTs, flash, etc etc etc. Just wondering who has a bog standard bike and is happy? I farkled mine but reckon I could have lived with it off the showroom floor.

Probably wont find many nonfarkled s10's on here, just like with my klr I wanted it to be able to do and go where I wanted, the factory did little in the way of protection, tires and storage for trips of any length so just like with the klr a few months after haveing her the farkling began, I would also be curious about how many left thier s10's factory fresh...

I bought mine with factory bars on, stock other than that. I'm happy. But I will add aux lights for daytime running, a louder horn and mirror extenders. Later this year, I will go the re-flash route, as I heard some good things. Can I live without all that? yes! Luggage is always softbags. The first time I rode it when it was mine was a 870 mile one day trip home, found the seat very comfy.

I have only done five things with mine: Caribou side luggage, cell phone holder, oil changes, gasoline, and ride. I am pretty content with everything until I will the lottery. The only other things I want to do to this one are tires in a few thousand miles (not sure what I will go with) and eventually try out a different clutch basket.

Just to be clear... a change of the CCT due to excessive rattle is really less of a "farkle" (aka: functional sparkle) than serious preventive maintenance.
I'm ashamed to confess that even though I've used that term for YEARS I never knew what the origins of 'farkle' was until now. You CAN teach an old dog new tricks! Thanks!

mine is pretty much stock except i did splurge on a parabellem windshield which really completed it for me. I'm totally happy with this bike in its stock form.....those Russell day longs look very tempting although the stock is one of the better stock seats i have experienced. It seems i'm one of the few here who keep it in touring mode most of the time.....I feed her premium non-ethonal and have experienced mileage in the high 50's pretty regularly!

I think with this site, it will be who has the least farkled bike, as opposed to a non-farkled bike...

I never heard the term till I bought my S10. I finally looked up what it meant. I always thought it was like "bling".. just flash but apparently its "Function" and "Sparkle".. So its not just bling…

Anyways, mine is pretty "farkled" out. As Chwhnd mentioned, in box-stock form it lacks the protection needed to go off-road. I think the type of bike that it is makes it a bike ripe for farkles!

To ride on a regular basis in all types of weather and day or night you need to carry a few items.

So you need to add at least some soft luggage (Tank Bag, tail bag) or at least a back pack and bungie cords.

Soft luggage becomes a pain after awhile so some form of hard luggage and racks is a prime useful minimum Farkle

I enjoyed it right off the showroom floor; however, I do a couple of long rides each year so I prefer a few goodies. I added bar risers(I'm 6'4"), factory side cases, protection bars(hate to call them "crash" bars), skid plate and GPS holder. I still need to get a headlight protector. Still need to install the Hyper-lite brake/turn sig lights. I have riding gear and things like a tank bag and Ortlieb dry bags from past rides.

So far it looks like that answer is ... no one.

Not really surprised by that result. Unless someone bought it today, or in the last week or two, I'll be surprised if those results change.

I haven't done any engine or suspension mods.

I fitted different heated grips which were a 6th of the price of the Yamaha ones.

I added a Givi Monokey plate for a topbox as I already had the box.

I acquired a modified seat from someone who sold their bike so have used that for 2 years.

I'm have been very happy with the bike in standard trim as far as performance and handling go.

I'm selling the bike, if anyone is interested. See the for sale section. Bike is in the UK.

As the OP the reason I asked was when I was younger, teens and early 20s, I just bought them and rode them. Now in my early 50s I can't stop modifying every bike I own. Am I less tolerant, more demanding, have more money or a combination?

I am a motorcycle minimalist and change just enough to make it comfortable....such as:

Stock seat raised in the front and lowered in the rear.
Symtec heated grip liners, stock grips, and grip puppies.
Givi crash bars
Handlebar risers
Parabellum windshield with Madstad bracket (I'm tall)
SWMotech luggage racks and cases sourced on ADVRider.com
Cheap Garmin Nuvi GPS

I've owned/sold a '12 S10 with 21,500 miles and my current '13
has 29,500 miles and I ride them absolutely stock...no flash, exhaust,
tuner.

YMMV

I WAS gonna speak FOR you Ron, if you didn't show up soon. ::013::

Ron is the posterchild for non-farkling. And he isn't pretending. He really is wired that way.

However, I rode with some inmates today, and one of them just took delivery of his 14 Standard this morning.
So, technically, he has the only bone stock Tenere that I know of. (no GPS even. Sorry Ron. He has you beat)

However, Fred, that's his name, won't get a moments peace riding with this crew on a bike like that. We will torture him if he tried.

He won't though. So no worries.
And thanks Fred for loaning me some wheels today.
You're a true gent!

(My Tenere is unavailable. It's getting some rather extensive farkling done. :) )

I'm pretty happy with my '14 ES, bone stock. I rode it home from the dealership without so much as upgraded skid plate. Was so in love. I've since added the taller windshield, some AltRider kit, and the Yamaha tail box (the lady feels like she's falling off the back of every motorcycle). Some days I miss the factory stock, but if I decide to detour on some dirt after work, I'm glad I have the AltRide kit. ::001::
