Well guys and gals. Today was the first full day on my bike since picking it up last weekend from the dealers.

On the ride home last weekend I was feeling somewhat confused. I've only ridden the bike for a few hours up to now. Up until last Saturday I've only ever slipped a leg over a Super 10. I've never ridden one and I didn't take mine out for a test ride. I bought blind. Mad some may say? But it's from a Yamaha Premier Dealer with a TWO year warranty even though it's a three year old bike... ::008:: So I thought if it goes wrong well, they can sort it out!

On the ride home last week I was feeling vibes through the pegs. The headlight aim was out, gearshift lever was too high, she seemed to judder at low RPM and the engine sounded like a thousand rattle cans all being shaken at once... Have I bought a Lemon I thought? ???

I'm used to the silky smooth V twin in my Africa Twin. She has an Arrows Paris Dakar pipe on and barks like Thor himself. But with the standard pipe fitted if you're wearing earplugs you can't hear the engine at all... So coming from that to the Super 10 was a bit of a culture shock.

This morning I got the bike out and started the immediate work that needed doing. First up was the headlight. I bought some GE 50% brighter Ice White bulbs last weekend. I fitted these and noticed that the headlight aim was better but still off. The left hand one was lower than the right. So 8mm long socket and small ratchet out, wheelybin as a marker. I was surprised how easy the light was to adjust. Getting the rubber sealing rings in their proper place was harder... Headlights are now SPOT ON!!! Next up was the gearshift. Sorted that out so it felt right with my TCX boots. Then checked the torque settings on front and rear axle pinch bolts. Then took off heel plate by rear master cylinder to adjust the brake light switch. Got that right (but having ridden the bike all day, it needs to go down a bit as it's slightly too high) and then it was tools away, shower and gear on....

I did 150 miles today and I'd like to say my perception of the bike has done a complete 180... I did the first 60 or so miles with my earplugs out so I could hear the engine and trans noises. The engine just seemed so much smoother and quieter today. She ran like a dream. The vibes seemed to be there, but not like last week where it felt I was going over a Cattle Grid (a slight exaggeration lol) They were hardly noticeable. Then I tried Sports mode. WOW. It was like sitting on a Supercharger, she just pulled and pulled and pulled some more.

I need to sort the screen out. It's fitted with the Touring Screen but the buffeting on my Arai Tour X4 is terrible. Looking at the stock screen that looks a better bet. It seems to go straight up with a lip forward compared to the swept back (towards my head) touring screen. I think a standard screen with spoiler might solve that issue, what say you guys? I'm 6' 1" tall with 32" inseam.

Got home tonight and can't believe how good this bike is. She is so easy to ride, an Africa Twin with more power and a Yamaha coat... I love it and this is just the first full day. I'm guessing it will only get better. :)

So Do I or Don't I love this bike? I certainly love it!!!

Now, let the farkling begin... ::008::

I had a similar feeling. From 0-300 miles my s10 felt vibey and like it was just not quite "right". I am at 700+ miles now and its smooth as a dream.

Moreso than the other two yamahas I have owned, this bike had a dramatic shift in smoothness during the breakin.

I first rode two in Europe before they came to the US, so got on the Pre-Delivery Plan in 2011 and knew what we had coming. When the bikes started coming to the US, I rode (iirc) three at dealer test ride events. The last one was set up so poorly that if it had been my first Tenere to ride, I probably would not have been on a second test ride or become an owner.

My bikes a 2013 model. Haven't ridden a later one so can't compare. I can live with a few vibes as it's just low down and it wasn't as bad as I thought when I got on it the second time. ::008::

I'm also thinking standard screen with a spoiler. It's seems to be more upright than my touring screen. Will try my mates out and see what his is like.

GOOD LUCK LODGY,
I have been doing stuff to my 13 since I got it only the clutch Bastet bothers me now so that will be a winter project.
Check ALL your nuts and bolts and I had a hell of a time getting my back brakes to stop sticking. I love the bike more everyday!!

I'll second using the updated clutch basket from the 14 and newer bikes. I have a 12 here, changed out the basket and did the TB sync, and it made a world of difference in how smooth the bike feels.

Through trial and error I came up with my ideal wind shield setup, a GIVI airflow with a screen angle adjusting bracket (I made my own). Initially I spaced the bottom of the screen forward with some spacers. The bracket allows you to fine tune the airflow to suit your helmet/body. I use a Shoei GT Air.

6'2" here
Yamaha touring screen with Puig adjustable visor works real good.
I just got a Parabellum 25" and it is even better although I think a 23" would be fine.

I third (or fourth) the motion of a 2014 clutch basket. You may not notice it much now, but you will (between 3,000 - 3,500 for my bike) ....SMOOTH now!

I have a '14, and my engine sounds like several rattles can too. But it runs good, no worries on the sounds. I have a Puig touring screen, and it has been fantastic. I can run it low or in the middle and still see over it and the airflow is smooth. For $125, I feel it is well worth it. No other screen is needed for me. Congrats on the bike and enjoy!

I installed the Madstad 20" windshield and bracket last week. I just did a 2200 mileso so far on my trip and I really like this setup. No buffeting for me. I'm going to install a set of side deflectors and I think that it'll get even better.

My headlights are way off as well. I'll have to adjust them before I start heading back home. I keep getting flashed by oncoming traffic and the high beam is aimed extremely high rendering it useless.

I just bought the bike in April, used from a dealer, and it runs really well getting great fuel mileage as long as you keep it at 70mph or below. I am extremely happy with it.
