Do black panniers cook your stuff?

Anybody here who has black aluminum panniers find that they absorb heat from the sun and cook up your gear stored inside?

Still trying to decide what type I will eventually get and color choices make it even more difficult to decide. Black panniers look great, but seems like they would get a bit warm...

I have black Touratech aluminum and have not noticed any excessive heat over the plain aluminum ones that I had before. Many trips across the desert southwest and no complaints.

Really easy to test yourself, go to a parking lot, in the midday sun, find a black car and a silver one. Put your hand on both cars and leave for 60 seconds, then you decide ::008::

I really don't believe pannier manufacturers will use any special heat reflective paints on their black panniers, or heat dissipating liners of any sort.

if you like black buy black, not a nickels worth of difference in temp between a black or silver pannier. its going to be 100 today in Buda Texas , those boxes will be 100 degrees..... if I walk to my truck and I see some stranger with his hands on my truck I may take issue,,, just saying...

Good to know. Leaning toward the Bumots - especially since Jason's shop is located here in NY < 300 miles from me. Day trip for an install maybe?! Would be fun.

I like black also and would go well with my bike I think. Thanks.

Mine are black, very hot to touch on a sunny day but I've never noticed the stuff inside getting warmer than normal.

Here you might make 120F. We are only going to 109F in Sac.

Since I am considering buying a Black Tail Box... I have been following this thread. Have a friend that swears his Black Tail Box gets extremely hot. Until yesterday I had not noticed anything out of the ordinary. I have the Black Side Cases and when I got home from a ride I reached for the Seat Key to open the side cases. The key was Hot and I don't remember this happening before. I checked the passenger foot peg bracket and it was hot. Checked the cover in front of the bracket and it was hot. The inside of the side case was hot. The non-muffler side was not hot like the stock muffler side. Should be riding to the Eastern Sierra tomorrow and will check.

Hot is hot. Doesn't matter what the color is. Just don't put anything heat sensitive inside. There have been times that I returned to my bike and found my brake/clutch levers so hot it was painful. Of course the temperature was well over 100.
