I think I want to replace the cigarette lighter adapter on my bike with a Powerlet. Does anyone know when one would be the direct replacement as far as fit is concerned?

My plan is to use the wiring currently going to the current adapter to set up a permanent mount for my gps. That way it'll be switched. Not interested in a fuse box set up at this point but maybe later. Thanks and ride safe.

You will need a large pair of washers to make a Powerlet socket fit the hole. The cig socket hole is too big, so you'll want to sandwich the hole with the washers & tighten up a standard Powerlet socket's nut to make it work.

I was hoping not to, but figured I would have to based on the size. Looks like some black rustoleum might be needed to make it blend. Thanks for the tip!

Or......... you could use the opposite side and make the right size hole using a step drill-bit, I believe that has been done before.

I just put a powerlet on the left side of the bike to use my heated vest. I put it on the top, flat part of the plastic panel closest to the rider's knee. I was an easy install and looks good.

I'm using that side for light switches. There's one for my stock PIAAs and I may add some driving lights there as well but that is certainly an option. Thanks!

That sounds like a viable option Phil. Got a pic? I was thinking the same thing but was curious about heat from the radiator? Any issues? I was also considering an outlet in that area that I'd attach my battery tender to via the Powerlet outlet as well. Thanks!

The copper conductor in the wiring is not heavy enough to support what a Powerlet can. If you simply snip the wires to replace the cig lighter with a Powerlet and then stick a big fuse in you really do risk melting the wires. In the middle of the harness. That's a really bad idea.

If you are going to replace the cig lighter with a Powerlet socket, then replace the wiring so it can handle the amperage.

I simply ran a second wire to the Powerlet with a dedicated fuse.

That's the plan. I think I'll check out the Powerlet website to determine my needs. I'd really like to see pics from Phil before purchasing though.
