Hello!
My project is launched so I want to share it with you :
I plan a trip to Mongolia with e departure in March (at the earliest in early March mid-March at the latest) from home with of course my ST10.
The outline of the path is more or less defined but I want to keep flexibility in fuction of the people I will meet, the weather, knowing that what the milestones will be given by visas.
Basically the countries visited (not only crossed) will be :
- Italy
- Slovenia
- Balkans
- Albania
- Greece (Meteora etc ...)
- Turkey (Cappadocia ...) with a lot of paperwork to do for visas for countries that end in "stan"
- Iran : the visa will be done before leaving, and that damned "carnet de passage en douane" it's a book wich allowed you to go in Iran with your own vehicule but you have to deposit 150% of the value of the sale rate of your motorbike
- Turkmenistan (transit visa for 5 days max for more there is administrative complications)
- Uzbekistan
- Tajikistan (Pamir Highway with a pass at 4655 m! and hope to go to whakan corridor)
- Kyrgyzstan
- Kazakhstan
- Russia
- Mongolia at least up to Ulaanbaatar to redo some visas for the return.
At the beginning I planned to travel alone but finally my mate Stéphane will be on leave without pay for four months to come with me, so he will join me in Turkey in early May. The return is scheduled for late August.
Mongolia is the destination and that makes me dream but for me the path is at least as important as the destination
My bike is 88 500 km old, before I leave I made a standard maintenance :
Done by Yam:
- Control of the valve clearance I did not do it at 40 000 km, and the mechanician told me he didn't had to change any valve pad.
- Synchro injection.
- Supply chain control: OK
Done by me :
- Spark plugs changed
- Air filter changed
- Motor Oil and filter changed
- Removing fuel pump to control the filter : OK
- Change battery (it was original)
- Drain front fork, once everything was dismantled I preventively change the oil seals (never change before)
- Bleed hydraulic brake and clutch fluid
- Change the coolant
- Change the final gear oil
- Bearings checked
My mate has a 1200 GSA with 125 000 km, he had an engine seizure at 30 000 km, fix some problem of fuel pump, and front fork pivot twice but now it seems to work well
I will keep my blog (www.2bernard.fr) updated as possible and tell you when i will actualy leave!
Jean-Marc.
