Started using a Delorme InReach a few months ago, and wanted to power it from the bike. They have a powered mount, but it uses a 12V cigarette lighter adapter that has a 12v -> 5v power supply inside. I didn't like the cord setup, and figured the lifetime of the adapter was going to be short. I tore into a few months ago to figure out what was inside.

Started with the stock Delorme mount:

Busted open the adapter:

Cut the cord at the mount end. The Delorme cord was coiled I didn't like it:

Picked up a 12v -> 5v supply on Amazon, it's the white SMAKN box in the following photo's. Went ahead and took the opportunity to put in my Eastern Beaver 3CS and add a switched Powerlet. I used dual lock to mount the power supply, and then ran a cord up to the bars.

InReach comes on with key on, offers to stay on or powers off after 15 seconds when key is turned off.

All good. Now if the thunderstorms, wind and rain stop I'll get some field testing in.

Does anyone know what Amps the InReach draws when charging/powered from the mount? I want to wire a similar setup but run two devices from the same power supply that is rated at 3 AMPs. I am guessing thats more than enough to run two USB powered devices.
