::012:: I have been a member since this past summer and have been looking forward to being able to say, I got my Super T. Sadly it had to be delivered instead of ridden home because of the snow and ice on the roads. My call sign kinda gives it away, I am in central Ohio. I am now going to get to know my S10 and put a few this on her to make her my own. I do have a question for everyone that may read this. I am looking to put on a skid/ bash plate to protect the bottom of the engine. Question is (I won't be doing a great deal of off road riding ) without breaking the bank, what can I get by with. There seems to be a wide range of prices/ protection choices out there. I thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

There are lots of choices on bash plates, that's assured.
But to judge them is a bit tricky because it is not what you might think that determines one over another.

Normally you would look at the materials and the coverage and decide what looks\feels substantial enough to take a hit.
Instead, with the Tenere, it is far more about the attachment points.
It seems there are 2 facts that are in play. First, the sump on these mighty Beasts are far from robust. They will indeed break and possibly leak all the oil out if that casting takes a good blow.
And then second, which might be most important, is that many of these bash plates actually attach TO the motor housing itself. So the bash plate might take the actual blow, but then transfer the energy to the same castings that they are intended to protect. The result being that the bash plate breaks the case! It has indeed happened to a few folks here over the years.

So, what am I trying to say? Regardless of if the intention is heavy, light, or no off road at all, to consider installing legitimate protection to the vulnerable sump on the Tenere, you should choose bash protection that is attached to the frame of the bike if possible. You may not need anything resembling TANK protection, but it still would be good engineering sense to find one that actually does NOT have the possibility of transferring the unexpected impact to the sump itself.

Good luck fellas! And regardless of your stated intentions, please don't turn around when the road surface deteriorates as you chase those sunsets and sunrises. This thing was invented to take you there! :)

For bare minimum and low cost, the SW Motech also works. I had one on my first Tenere and it was not heavy duty but did OK, plus was easier to get on and off for oil changes than most others.

From what I understand there are only 3 "stream line" makers of bash plates that attach to the frame, ACD Racing, Alt Rider, and Rumbux. Could be completely wrong on that though, but I've been in the market and that is what I've came across so far.

They are the best at protection.
The point here was that for a person spending nearly all of their time on the road, the possibilities open to others.

I thought the only three were Rumbux, Hepco-Becker, and the RideonAdv

This one frame mounts. But according to Tabasco it is made from un-obtanium.

(He does make a more mass-produced bash cage, but it is overkill for road use)

Snake is only showing the tube-work. His one-off is BEAUTIFUL when all put together.

Well, Tabasco surely appreciates your opinion of "beautiful".

And I'm sure he will not be offended by my opinion being different. Lol
I describe it as 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea-ish.
Not a complaint, of course. My challenge to him was to build me an indestructable RTW bash cage that hugged the motor as close as possible.
I had the Rumbux lowers. I wanted Rumbux protection without the liberal use of my ground clearance that their mass production technique\$costs required.

Really, I flat out wanted Tabasco's personal bash cage. Now THAT thing is "beautiful"
