A plea for help. I installed a speedhealer. It passes the checkout test. But now my bike will not start. :'( Everything operates. Bike will crank but not start.

I have run continuity tests on all connections. Everything checks out okay. I think I know what I did to get the default code (69). ::010:: No joke. That's the code number. In my opinion everything is back to fixed and normal. Question: How do I reinitialize the bike to reset to no default code?

Did you hit the kill switch while working on the bike?

It won't crank if the kill switch is off, and he stated it would crank, but not start.

Re: Default codes

To reset, go into the diagnostis mode to the fault 69 and flip the kill switch off and on to reset that fault code.

No luck. I am assuming that to get into the diagnostic mode I simply turn the key on so the default code is displayed. Then switch the kill switch from on to off and on again. Is this correct?

One more piece of the puzzle. My "check engine" light is on too. I had assumed (bad word, I know) that the light and the default code were one and the same problem. Perhaps I should quite assuming. Any suggestions?

Suggestion: Read the workshop manual....

To enter Diagnostics:

Press the left and right button on the dash simultaniously, and turn the ignition switch to ON.
Continue to hold the buttons for 8 seconds or more.

DIAG appears in the Odometer LCD. If CO appears in the Odometer LCD press the left set button to select DIAG.

Simultaniously press the left and the right set button for 2 seconds or more to set the Diagnostic mode.

It is all on page 8-34 and 8-35 of the workshop manual.

You are EXACTLY right. Read the manual. ::024:: Thanks. I was hoping there was a shortcut. But no luck. I have now read the manual. You left out one step, I think. #2 Disconnect the wire harness coupler from the fuel pump.

I will proceed. Thanks to everyone. I appreciate your prompt replies. And helpful tips.

If any of you need any help with installing the speed healer, let me know. I have made every mistake there is to make. Does that make me an expert??? ::005::

You can skip step #2. I saw my dealer read out the diagnostics before. He did not disconnect anything. Just press the buttons and presto! The ground wire is required for US bikes, there is a topic on that issue too.

Hope you succeed solving it soon!

The ground wire is only required for US bikes if you want to access the CO setting mode. To access the diagnostic mode the procedure you posted works fine.

Re: Default codes

First I want to thank everyone again for all the help. ::003:: I did FINALLY read all the manual instructions for exiting the diagnostic mode. And followed them to a tee. And they worked. ::014::

I did remove the fuel pump wire (located under the tank). I did not ground anything since I was wanting to exit the mode not enter it. Looks like all I needed was a little icon that said "read more, ride less" Or maybe worry less.

I lost my nerve when it came to restarting the bike. Which means I have to reassemble the gas tank connections. Not a big job but I just wanted to bask in the warm feeling of finally finding out how to turn off that damn code before I push the go button and find the code reappearing. Which, if it does, means I have a whole new set of problems. Wish me luck, please.
